Army orders rugged computers from Talla-Tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., 6 June 2007. U.S. Army leaders are ordering rugged computers from Tallahassee Technologies Inc. -- better known as Talla-Tech -- in Tallahassee, Fla., for a variety of harsh-environment applications.

Army officials are buying the Talla-Tech RPDA-57 rugged portable digital assistant under terms of an $18.5 million contract, announced today.

The RPDA-57 is the latest tactical military computer from Talla-Tech. Tens of thousands of earlier versions of these units are deployed in the field by all branches of the U.S. armed forces, company officials say.

Talla-Tech and its parent company, Tallahassee Communications Industries Inc. (Talla-Com) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Tadiran Communications Ltd. in Petah Tikva, Israel

The RPDA-57 is based on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, and comes in a variety of configurations including an embedded SAASM GPS, Taclink communications controller, embedded Iridium data transceiver, and a 900 MHz transceiver.

The lightweight, rugged, modular handheld PDA is a full tactical, computer and tactical terminal for foot soldiers who use it for digital mapping, navigation, route planning, situational awareness, tactical information sharing, mission planning, and other digital battlefield applications.
