PrismTech to supply software middleware for Joint Tactical Radio System

Engineers at ITT Corp., a military contractor in White Plains, N.Y., needed middleware and software development tools for the company’s involvement in the JTRS program and the continued development of the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW).

ITT Corp. staff selected Spectra Tools from PrismTech in Burlington, Mass., for the development and deployment of software-defined radio (SDR) applications.

ITT engineers are using Spectra Tools for waveform and platform component design, code generation, and to verify portability, code accuracy, and Software Communications Architecture (SCA) compliance.

“We’re seeing a strong trend by the military SDR community to look outside of their own organizations for SCA development and compliance support,” says Dominick Paniscotti, vice president of engineering, SDR products, PrismTech. “There is growing enthusiasm within the contractor community to utilize tools, middleware, and professional services offered by SCA implementation experts, as opposed to trying to develop these internally-which is often time consuming, more expensive, and resource and skills constrained.”

PrismTech’s Spectra Tools suite is designed to deliver the functionality required by radio engineers for rapid application development and testing of their wireless applications. Spectra Tools supports SCA application porting to multiple target platforms, and allows for reverse engineering of existing waveforms, forward code generation of SCA infrastructure code, and the SCA compliance testing of ported waveforms.
