Amphenol offers high-current connectors for printed circuit boards

SIDNEY, N.Y., 3 March 2008. Amphenol Industrial in Sidney, N.Y., is offering three compact, high-amperage connectors for high-current, single-point connections to printed circuit boards (PCBs).

The PowerBlok, RADSERT, and PGY connectors incorporate RADSOK technology to eliminate threaded connection failures and increase reliability, flexibility and available surface space within a board design, company officials say.

Housed in a package measuring 12.7 by 12.7 millimeters, PowerBlok provides as much as 70 Amps to a board. The component's backplane power interface uses compliant pins, which are press-fit into the board. PowerBlok features a radial design.

RADSERT is available in either a 2.4 millimeter size carrying as much as 35 amps or in a 3.6 millimeter size carrying as much as 70 amps. In addition, RADSERT enables designers to bring power to the board from busbars suspended above the board and its components. A standard RADSERT is designed for a board thickness of 6.35 by 0.0635 millimeters with custom sizes available.

The PGY, an orthogonal card edge connector, is available in two sizes, 3.6 millimeters carrying as much as 70 Amps, and 5.7 millimeters carrying as much as 120 Amps.

The RADSOK PCB connector series is RoHS-compliant and can be applied manually or by a reflow solder process that eliminates the need for additional wires and special crimping tools.
