OEwaves to develop microwave photonic tunable filters for military communications

PASADENA, Calif., 24 Aug. 2008. OEwaves Inc. in Pasadena, Calif., will develop frequency agile bandpass filters and notch filters to support agile receiver systems for military communications. Such agile filters enhance receiver system performances and reduce volume and power necessary for military applications.

The tunable microwave photonic filters are based on the patented technology of ultra-high quality (Q) factor crystalline whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical resonators.

"The wide tuning range and high agility of OEwaves filters enhance performance and simplify receiver architectures," says Lute Maleki, president and chief executive officer of OEwaves.

Multi-pole widely tunable microwave photonic filters also are applicable to military and commercial microwave filter banks, radio emission detection, and other scientific instrumentation and test equipment.
