Saudi air force chooses jet fighter training system from Cubic Corp.

JANUARY 7, 06:14 EST

EGLIN AFB, Fla. -- Combat aircraft flight training officials of the Royal Saudi Air Force in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, needed a new air combat training system. They found their solution from Cubic Defense Systems in San Diego.

Saudi air force leaders are buying the system under provisions of a U.S. government Foreign Military Sale. Cubic engineers are building the system for the Saudis under terms of a $19 million contract announced Jan. 3 from the U.S. Air Armament Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

The training system, which will help train Saudi F-15 jet fighter pilots, is similar to Cubic's Kadena Interim Training System (KITS), now being used by U.S. Air Force pilots at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, and Air National Guard pilots at Alpena, Mich., Cubic officials say.

The Saudi system, called KITS, is to be finished by May 2003. System components will include Cubic's Air Combat Training -- Rangeless (ACT-R) pods, its Individual Combat Aircrew Display System (ICADS), spares, and test equipment.
