AUGUST 13, 2002, 10:00EDT BURNABY, British Columbia, -- Spectrum Signal Processing Inc., a provider of high performance solutions for wireless signal and Voice over Packet processing, announced that flexComm signal processing technology is being shipped to Northrop Grumman for use in its successful TPS-78 family of tactical ground-based air-surveillance radar systems. A total of $1.1 million of product shipped last quarter, with another $1.3 million scheduled for this quarter.
"Two years ago, Spectrum began to develop the flexComm signal processing technology being used today in the TPS-78 family of radar systems and the results of this effort are being realized through the worldwide use of this system," stated Pascal Spothelfer, President and CEO of Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. "Northrop Grumman's continued commitment to our flexComm platform reinforces Spectrum's position in the high reliability signal processing market space, and illustrates a classic example of a strategic partnership generating substantial long term revenues, as stated in our design win criteria."
The TPS-78 radar system is a ground-based tactical air surveillance system that is designed for air defense, air sovereignty, counter-narcotics surveillance & control, or joint-use airspace management. The addition of a highly reliable, modular solid-state transmitter is the latest evolution of the TPS-78 product line, which provides significant improvements in reliability/maintainability and increased sensitivity on small cross section targets. The TPS-78 solid-state family of radars includes both long-range and short-range tactical, three-dimensional air surveillance systems. The US Air Force and armed forces in over 25 countries worldwide use TPS-78 radar systems.
Spectrum Signal Processing designs, develops and markets high performance wireless signal processing and Voice over Packet processing subsystems for use in communications infrastructure equipment. Spectrum's optimized hardware, software and chip technology work together to collect, compress and convert voice and data signals to improve the efficiency and processing power of infrastructure equipment and to enable voice and data to move seamlessly between communications networks.
Leveraging its 15 years of design expertise, Spectrum provides its customers with faster time to market and lower costs by delivering highly flexible, reliable and high-density solutions. Spectrum subsystems are targeted for use in media gateways and next-generation voice and data switches, satellite hubs, government communications systems and cellular base stations.
