ENSCO Launches Program for Avionics Software Testing

Endicott, N.Y. January 21, 2003. ENSCO has launched the Six Star program, a new verification package for high-reliability, safety critical avionics software through RTCA/DO-178B/ED-12B. The program provides continually refined testing approaches and automation at six distinct levels of service: software requirements, design, source code, review, analysis and module test. For each level, the Six Star program provides a defined set of tasks to evaluate the development of the avionics software against safety critical standards.

ENSCO has automated many of the more tedious tasks involved with the comprehensive software unit testing. Services include a quick turn-around on Rough Order of Magnitude quote and a customized quote based off of Source Lines Of Code requirements or complexity. ENSCO offers remote or on-site unit test development capabilities.

ENSCO has over 280,000 hours of software unit test experience and 300+ engineers who are experienced with all phases of safety critical software development. Customers include BAE SYSTEMS, General Electric, Lockheed Martin, AlliedSignal, Honeywell, and IBM. The company's familiarity with the planning, creation, tracking and conduct of the unit test process was the foundation for the development of the Six Star program.

"The Six Star program offers peace of mind to our customers," said Neil Fifield, division manager of ENSCO's Endicott, N.Y. location. "ENSCO has developed many years of experience supporting numerous programs across multiple avionics applications. Our customers come to us to help them meet their program and product testing requirements, reducing cost and schedule risk, while providing an accurate and high quality test package."

ENSCO provides engineering, science and advanced technology solutions for the defense, security, transportation, environment, aerospace and intelligent automation industries. Founded in 1969, ENSCO is a $80 million, 650-person privately-owned organization. Headquartered in Springfield, Va., ENSCO has major offices in Endicott, N.Y., Melbourne and Cocoa Beach, Fla., and field offices around the United States and in Beijing, China.
