DAYTON, Ohio, June 24, 2004. The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Strategic Airlift Directorate Program Office (WR-ALC/LT), at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, has awarded MTC Technologies, Inc. a $16.5 million potential value task order to maintain the C-5 Malfunction Detection, Analysis, and Recording System (MADARS) software.
As the prime contractor, MTC will manage the five-year (basic with four option years) contract and has teamed with OnBoard Software, Inc., a software engineering and systems integration company based in San Antonio, Texas, to perform this work.
OnBoard Software, Inc. previously supported the C-5 weapon system in identifying suitable substitutes for obsolete components in addition to rehosting the software to the new hardware. About 65 per cent of the C-5 fleet's "A" and "B" models have already been modified with MADARS III, which replaces old, non-supportable MADARS II systems.
This software system was designed to aid C-5 flight crews and maintenance personnel to detect and isolate malfunctions, and to collect and record data from selected points throughout the aircraft. Now designated MADARS III, the system is modified as the technology changes; its function is to acquire inflight data such as vibration detection, turbine inlet temperatures, health monitoring information, and structural and engine exceedancies, and record them during flight.
"We have been providing engineering and logistics services for C-5 Aircraft Fleet Sustainment over the past two years in the areas of aircraft structural integrity, functional analysis, and logistics analysis," said MTC CEO David Gutridge.
"The award for the MADARS software maintenance effort is yet another example of the confidence the Strategic Airlift Directorate places in MTC to manage programs of significant importance to the Air Force. I am very pleased that our MTC team has garnered another win; however, it is important to note that this award was further made possible because of our partnership with OnBoard Software, Inc., which has also established an outstanding reputation with our customer."
