ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 15, 2004. Engineered Support Systems, Inc. has received an $8.9 million order for the Knight Precision Targeting System from the Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) in Warren, Mich.
Engineered Support's Systems & Electronics Inc. subsidiary (SEI) will produce 28 M1025A2 Knight Vehicles, 31 Mission Equipment Packages for Fire Support Vehicles, and miscellaneous spare parts in their St. Louis and West Plains, Mo. facilities. Work is expected to be completed by August 31, 2005, according to Jerry Daniels, Vice Chairman and CEO.
Knight is a precision targeting system consisting of a laser designator/rangefinder, thermal imager, digital command and control, blended inertial/Global Positioning System navigation and targeting, and a self-defense weapon. Its mission is to provide precision far target location and laser target designation for both artillery and air-delivered general purpose and precision-guided munitions.
To date, SEI has produced more than 120 Knight systems for the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. Knights are currently deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Funds that led to this award were added to the Fiscal Year 2004 Defense budget by Congress specifically to improve the modernization of the National Guard. The vehicles produced will be fielded to National Guard units in several states, including Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington.
