NEEDHAM, Mass., Sept. 16, 2004. General Dynamics Network Systems was chosen to install a complete voice, video, and data network infrastructure for the U.S. Army at Camp Victory, in Baghdad, Iraq. This project is valued at $3.6 million for General Dynamics and is expected to expand to include additional military installations in the Baghdad area.
This effort is part of the Army's Kuwait Iraq C4 Commercialization (KICC) program, providing strategic communications at U.S. military bases within Iraq and throughout Southwest Asia. The project was competitively awarded under the Army's Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM) Rapid Response contract (R2). Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), a prime contractor under the R2 program, chose General Dynamics to provide inside-plant, data, and voice infrastructure solutions for this project.
"General Dynamics Network Systems is pleased to have the opportunity to expand its relationship with the Army in this region," said Vic Lanio, the General Dynamics vice president responsible for this contract. "As the requirements within Iraq and the theater continue to evolve, we will partner with the Army to provide the IT solutions it needs to successfully execute its mission."
This award continues General Dynamics Network Systems' long legacy of providing network infrastructure solutions to the Army worldwide. The company recently completed similar infrastructure work in Kuwait and is upgrading the voice switches and installing data networks throughout Korea. General Dynamics is also upgrading and expanding the communications voice network at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga., one of the Department of Defense's premier training centers for military communications and information technology.
