Air Force buys biological agent detectors from BioVeris

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 27, 2004. BioVeris Corporation announced today that the U.S. Air Force, Air Combat Command has placed a $1.4 million order to purchase the Company's new M- SERIES M1M Analyzers for use in the detection of biological agents.

These biological agents are detected in a variety of environmental and food samples on the M1M Analyzer using the tests manufactured under BioVeris' contract with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense -- Chemical Biological Medical Systems (JPEOCBD).

This new order is in addition to the company's existing contract with the JPEOCBD. The analyzers are expected to be shipped during 2004 and will be used by the U.S. Air Force to expand their ability to protect military personnel worldwide.

BioVeris' products are used in multiple homeland security and biodefense initiatives. BioVeris has been working with the Air Force and numerous other departments within the Department of Defense, as well as other government agencies providing products for the detection of Category A and Category B biological agents, including agents such as anthrax, staphylococcus enterotoxin B, and botulinum toxin, among others.

"We are extremely pleased that the Air Combat Command has chosen the M1M Analyzer and BioVeris technology as part of their program for detecting select agents" said Samuel J. Wohlstadter, Chief Executive Officer of BioVeris Corporation. "We believe the continued expansion of our products use in these important Homeland Security programs underscores the value and utility of our technology. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the U.S. Government and U.S. Military to meet their evolving needs for advanced biological testing systems."

In June 2004, BioVeris introduced for sale its M-SERIES M1M Analyzer, which is the fourth product in its M-SERIES line of automated analyzers based on the Company's proprietary electrochemiluminescence technology. The M1M Analyzer is designed for multiple applications and currently serves the biodefense, life science research and food testing markets.
