State Department buys fingerprint biometric systems

LUND, Sweden, Oct. 5, 2004. Precise Biometrics AB, which develops and sells user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, received two follow-up orders for the U.S. Department of State by the end of September, worth about MSEK 1,3 (1.3 million Swedish Kronor, about $175,500) in total.

Like the initial order, the follow-up orders are part of a project with the objective to increase computer network security throughout the US government agency.

The orders for Precise Biometrics combined fingerprint and smart card readers were received in cooperation with one of Precise Biometrics' U.S. partners within the information security software segment.

"We are honored to receive two more orders from the U.S. Department of State this year. Considering the US Department of State's very strict security requirements, we take this as a proof of our products living up to their high expectations," said Christer Bergman, president and CEO of Precise Biometrics.

The combined fingerprint and smart card readers are optimized for Precise Biometrics' Precise Match-on-Card technology, which makes it possible to store and match fingerprints directly on a smart card, instead of in a less secure environment such as a computer. The use of smart identification devices are proving to be a vital link in the chain of trust for both commercial organizations and government agencies. When combined with biometrics, smart cards offer great advantages for both physical and logical security.

The combined fingerprint and smart card readers from Precise Biometrics were delivered within the third quarter.
