LOS ANGELES, Calif., 31 May 2006. Qantas, the largest airline in Australia, has submitted an order to Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, for Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink quick access recorder (WQAR) for installation on its A380 aircraft. The Australian carrier, which recently ordered 12 Airbus A380, with options for 12 more, will use Teledyne's WQAR to automate the recording and transmission of flight data.
For safety management and aircraft maintenance programs, Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink quick access recorder is a patented system that provides aircraft operators with an effective solution for data recording and transmission over cellular infrastructure.
The GroundLink system can record and wirelessly transfer flight data from the aircraft to the ground, without any media handling and human intervention.
Using a Teledyne proprietary protocol, the raw data recorded during flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis.
