RTI to help upgrade Navy Hawkeye weapons system

Staff members at the Naval Air Systems (NAVAIR) Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md., often need to upgrade the weapons systems aboard various military combat vehicles. They turned to middleware experts at Real-Time Innovations (RTI) in Santa Clara, Calif., for help specific to Navy E-2C Hawkeye aircraft.

RTI won a small business innovative research (SBIR) Phase II contract with a value of $600,000, and a $150,000 option for additional follow-on development. According to the agreement, RTI personnel will research technologies relevant to an ongoing upgrade to the E-2C Hawkeye’s weapons system.

The E-2C Hawkeye is considered a tactical airborne early-warning system for identifying and analyzing threats, coordinating surveillance, and directing countermeasures in defensive roles.

This SBIR award will be used for continued research and development with respect to the performance, portability, security, and functionality of the RTI Data Distribution Service, and their impact on the E-2C Hawkeye upgrade program.

“The SBIR program enables technology innovators to invest in technologies that deliver significant benefits to both government and society in general,” says Gerardo Pardo-Castellote, chief technology officer of RTI. “This effort will improve an important technology for use in government and commercial projects that require real-time data availability across a network.”
