Naval Surface Warfare Center selects FLIR Systems thermal imaging technology

Officials at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (NSWC Crane) in Crane, Ind., required an advanced thermal imaging solution that is effective in virtually all weather and lighting conditions. They found such a technology at FLIR Systems Inc. in Portland, Ore.

FLIR Systems won a $9.3 million fixed-price contract from NSWC Crane for its AN/KAX-1A maritime forward-looking infrared systems. The stabilized, lightweight, multisensor systems delivered under the contract support the Long Range Ground Mobility Visual Augmentation Systems (LR-GMVAS) Program, which provides ground vehicles with an all-weather, day/night, high-resolution, thermal imaging capability.

“This contract, building on FLIR’s existing relationship with the Special Operations Community, demonstrates the value of our systems for emerging, vehicle-based applications and furthers our strategy to equip ground-based forces,” says Earl R. Lewis, president and CEO of FLIR Systems Inc.
