Pentek offers VME/VXS board with PowerPC, FPGA, and Gigabit Ethernet

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., 28 Jan. 2008. Pentek Inc. in Upper Saddle River, N.J., is releasing its Model 4207 high-performance digital signal processing and data-acquisition system with Freescale's MPC8641D dual-core PowerPC AltiVec processor and a Xilinx Virtex-4 FX series field-programmable gate array (FPGA).

The single-slot Model 4207 fits in one slot, and is appropriate for wideband, data acquisition-and-recording, real-time digital signal-processing, and software-radio applications.

The board has a fabric-transparent crossbar switch that bridges gigabit serial resources like the PowerPC and FPGA, two XMCs, dual VXS ports, dual Fibre Channel ports, and two optical serial transceivers.

Native protocols support PCI Express, Serial RapidIO, Fibre Channel, and Aurora, all accommodated by the crossbar switch. As much as four gigabytes of fast DDR2 SDRAM boosts real-time signal processing.

The board's single-core MPC8641 or dual-core MPC8641D processors perform 128-bit parallel processing of multiple data elements (Single-Instruction, Multiple-Data Stream).

The processor includes built-in gigabit fabric support with 8x PCI Express and 4x Serial RapidIO serial data ports. For more information contact Pentek online at www.pentek.com.
