Honeywell introduces radiation-hardened circuit for commercial and military space

PLYMOUTH, Minn., 7 April 2008. Honeywell Inc. in Plymouth, Minn., is introducing an advanced radiation-hardened integrated circuit for space systems designers and operators.

The HX5000 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is certified to U.S. Department of Defense requirements and can integrate as many as 15 million combined gates of logic and SRAM, including Honeywell's SERDES (serialize deserialize) macrocell for 3 gigabits per second chip-to-chip communications. Design kits for the ASIC are based on standard tools developed by Synopsys Inc.

The HX5000 provides six times the information processing capability of previous generation ASICs while maintaining full radiation hardness. The ASIC was designed and produced at Honeywell's QML-certified 150 nanometer silicon-on-insulator CMOS trusted foundry.
