French army employs ULIS uncooled thermal sensors

Decision makers at Sagem Défense Sécurité needed uncooled thermal sensors, also known as microbolometers, for their work with the French army. They found their solution at ULIS, an infrared vision specialist making uncooled thermal sensors for military applications based in Veurey-Voroize, France.

ULIS won a five-year contract with Sagem Défense Sécurité and serves as a primary source of supply for weapon sights, handheld equipment, and military programs for cameras, including the French army’s Future Infantry Soldier System (FELIN).

Under the agreement, ULIS will deliver uncooled 384-by-288-pixel, 25-micron microbolometers, with the first delivery due at the end of the year. The uncooled thermal sensors will be affixed to the French army’s thermal imaging rifle sights, multifunction goggles, and cameras for day and night operation.

The devices are to improve target acquisition through the detection of thermal energy over the long-wave range (8 to 14 microns). For more information, visit ULIS online at www.ulis-ir.com.
