Tyco offers quick-release plug connector for cable assemblies and base station filters

HARRISBURG, Pa., 3 Dec. 2008. Tyco Electronics in Harrisburg, Pa., is introducing the Snap-Lock SMA series plug electronic connector that is compatible with a standard SMA jack connector for test and instrumentation, mobile base station filters, and cable assemblies.

The series has an operating temperature range of -65 to 165 degrees Celsius, 50 Ohms impedance, and performs at frequencies as high as 6 GHz. This connector series is an option for engineers who like quick-release capability but are concerned with backwards compatibility of their existing equipment or systems.

Traditional mating of the SMA interface requires threading the plug onto the jack to a specified torque level, which takes time, involves wear on the mating components, and often requires a separate tool to meet the prescribed mating torque.

This plug connector has inner contact fingers that slide over the threads of the mating SMA jack and lock into place by engaging the outer collar, which reduces wear on the components and can save time in mating and unmating.

The product comes in straight and right-angle cable plug configurations and as a SMA jack to Snap-Lock SMA plug adapter. For more information contact Tyco Electronics online at www.tycoelectronics.com.
