Wind River and EmbVUE deliver real-time AFDX avionics databus software to first customer

MONTREAL, 4 Dec. 2008. EmbVUE Inc. in Montreal, is offering its A-Stack Avionics Full-Duplex (AFDX) avionics networking software for the VxWorks 653 real-time operating system from Wind River in Alameda, Calif., and the combined product is being delivered to the first customer, company officials say.

EmbVUE's A-Stack is an ARINC 664 subset network stack implemented in software that has been written from scratch and is certifiable under software safety standard RTCA/DO-178B to Level A. The A-Stack software supports compliant, profiled, and deterministic networks and provides AFDX support.

The 100-megabits-per-second AFDX avionics databus, originally developed for the Airbus A380 passenger jetliner, defines the electrical and protocol specifications (IEEE 802.3 and ARINC 664, Part 7) for moving data between avionics subsystems.

"We have had good standalone success with our DO-178B certifiable A-Stack product and it has already been ported to several different processor platforms," says Phil Cole, EmbVUE's business development manager. "We recognize how important VxWorks 653 is in our market and we are, therefore, delighted to be able to announce that we have delivered A-Stack support for VxWorks 653 to our first joint customer."
