CMC Electronics offers GPS-based aircraft landing system; receives federal certification

SAINT-LAURENT, Quebec, 17 Dec. 2008. CMC Electronics in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, are offering the IntegriFlight CMA-5024 aviation global positioning system (GPS) receiver, which has received federal certification in the United States and Canada for GPS-based aircraft instrument landings.

The GPS-based landing system has received approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington and from Transport Canada in Ottawa to TSO-C145b Beta-3 -- the most stringent category for Wide Area Augmentation System (AAAS) navigation receivers.

The CMA-5024 also was certified in the U.S. and Canada to TSO-146 Delta-4, which allows these receivers to provide precision approach guidance signals to the aircraft's autopilot and instrument displays to do localizer precision with vertical (LPV) landing approaches.

The device is for retrofit and adaptability to either existing or aircraft, from helicopters and business jets to commercial air transport jets. The receiver has a predicted 40,000-hour mean-time-between-failures.

The CMA-5024 provides space based augmentation system (SBAS)/AAAS GPS navigation capability from departure to non precision approach that will comply with published communications, navigation, surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) navigational mandates and growth provisions.

When coupled with a compatible flight management system, the CMA-5024 will provide LPV approach guidance identical to instrument landing system (ILS) localizer and glide slope signals.

The receiver has interfaces conforming to ARINC 743A-4 and supports the ARINC 743A-5/743B Characteristics. As a sensor, the CMA-5024 provides position, velocity, and time supporting automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) requirements, primary means navigation, and required navigation performance-area navigation (RNP-RNAV) capable flight management systems.

The CMA-5024 is a self-contained GPS approach system that can host two cycles of the world-wide AAAS approach database. GPS Approach selection can be made from a suitable FMS or a dedicated control head (CMA-5025).

The CMA-5024 provides ILS look-alike localizer and guidance signals, linear deviations, and distance to go for seamless integration with RNP operations, distance measuring equipment look-alike distance to go to the threshold crossing point, and supports analog avionics, autopilots and flight directors.
