AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, 11 March 2009. AdaCore in New York is announcing a corporate-wide unlimited-usage licensing agreement with BAE Systems UK in Farnborough, England, providing every BAE Systems developer in the United Kingdom with access to AdaCore's GNAT Pro Ada software development environment.
More than 600 software developers will benefit under this contract. Developers have access to GNAT Pro on 15 major native and cross development platforms that are in use across BAE Systems UK. AdaCore made the announcement at the Avionics 2009 Conference & Exhibition in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
BAE Systems UK has a long history of using the Ada programming language for security software and safety software applications. Current projects for military software include the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS), Harrier and Nimrod updates, and the Seawolf Mid-Life Update (SWMLU) ship defense system. Future BAE Systems Ada programs will be able to take advantage of this corporate-wide agreement, with immediate cost savings for software tool procurement.
The Ada programming language, which has evolved from Ada 83 to Ada 95 and more Ada 2005, is designed specifically for large, long-lived applications where reliability, efficiency, safety and security are vital.
