Chilean Navy employs RESON sonar system

Officials at S.H.O.A. Servico Hidrografico y Oceanografico de la Armada de Chile (the Chilean navy hydrographic and oceanographic service) sought technology with which to chart maritime and coastal regions, including natural and man-made constructs. They found their needed solution at RESON in Goleta, Calif.

RESON engineers are contracted to deliver the company’s sonar system to aid Chilean Navy personnel in developing nautical cartography for Chilean waters. S.H.O.A. develops accurate charts in electronic formats, ensuring compatibility with the navigation systems used by ships in service.

The total system, to be installed on the launch Albatross, includes a Sea Bat 7125-E high-resolution multibeam sonar, S410 Deepwater hydrographic and broadband echosounder, and PDS2000 software package.

The SeaBat7125-E, having an operational depth of 400 meters to 6,000 meters, provides high-resolution imagery data in real time for detailed, 3D representation of underwater and seabed conditions. The S410 Deepwater hydrographic and broadband echosounder supports single-channel operation, whereas the PDS2000 integrated software package enables the seamless use of data files between data-acquisition editing and chart production.
