Army, Marines select FLIR Systems for situational awareness technology

Officials in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps sought to put forward-looking infrared (FLIR) technology in the hands of more military personnel to improve their situational awareness and safety. They found their solution at FLIR Systems Inc. in Wilsonville, Ore.

FLIR Systems won a $12.9 million delivery order for its Star Safire III stabilized multisensor systems. The delivered Star Safire III units will support the Marine Corps Ground-Based Operational Surveillance System (G-BOSS) program. Work on the delivery order will be completed within the next 12 months at FLIR’s facility in Wilsonville, Ore.

The company also gained an $11.2 million modification to a performance-based logistics (PBL) support contract from the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, Ala. According to the PBL contract, FLIR engineers will provide service, upgrades, and logistics support for certain U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps programs. Work under the PBL contract will be performed over time as required to support the installed base of Star Safire III and THV-3000 systems in use under these programs.
