Argon to supply compact, rugged LCD display for Ultra Electronics unmanned vehicle controller

Engineers at Ultra Electronics Measurement Systems Inc. (Ultra MSI) in Wallingford, Conn., sought rugged display technology for the company’s manned and unmanned vehicle control unit. They found their solution at Argon Corp. in Great Neck, N.Y.

Argon won a contract from Ultra MSI to provide five-inch, rugged LCD displays for Ultra’s Freedom of Movement Control Unit (FMCU), designed to enable the accurate and reliable control of manned and unmanned systems.

The FMCU is being field tested for mission-critical control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). The device is being tested for battlefield applications, such as unmanned vehicles as remote weapon systems.

Argon engineers worked with Ultra MSI to develop a lightweight, low-power, sunlight-readable, and shatterproof LCD, which is hot-swappable with the FMCU, reveals a representative.
