Avionics encryption technology for Eurofighter to come from EADS Defence

Posted by John Keller

LEIDEN, The Netherlands, 27 Nov. 2009. Jet fighter avionics designers at Eurofighter GmbH in Hallbergmoos, Germany, needed encryption technology for the Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft. They found their solution from EADS Defence and Security in Leiden, The Netherlands.

The Eurofighter will be the first aircraft to get the Aircraft Crypto Variable Management Unit (ACVMU) a variant of Ectocryp Steel encryption, EADS officials say. Delivered with the support of Raytheon Systems Ltd. in Harlow, England, Ectocryp steel manages electronic key distribution for several aircraft communications systems using one secure single point.

Ectocryp Steel enables aircraft crews to pre-load and store several mission scenarios. The technology has a suite of security mechanisms and has an erase function. Ectocryp steel is due to be installed into Eurofighter early next year.

For more information contact Eurofighter GmbH online at www.eurofighter.com, EADS Defence and Security at www.eads.com, or Raytheon Systems Ltd. at www.raytheon.co.uk.
