Boeing Appoints Integrated Defense Systems Chief in UK
LONDON -- The Boeing Company has appointed Ian Thomas to spearhead the operations of the company's new Integrated Defense Systems business in the UK. A $23-billion business, Integrated Defense Systems was formed in July by the merger of Boeing's defense, space, intelligence and communications capabilities into a single unit.

Raytheon Wins Space Surveillance System Contract
SAN DIEGO -- Raytheon has been awarded a $17 million contract for the modernization and upgrade of the U.S. Navy's Space Surveillance System, known as the Fence or Space Fence. The upgrade will replace the Very High Frequency radio transmitters and receivers currently in use with ones operating at S-band frequencies.

Teledyne Technologies Acquires Monitor Labs
LOS ANGELES -- Teledyne Technologies has acquired Monitor Labs Incorporated, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Spirent plc. for $24 million. Monitor Labs is a leading supplier of environmental monitoring instrumentation for the detection, measurement, and reporting of air pollutants with locations in Englewood, Colo, and Gibsonia, Pa.

Navy Awards General Dynamics $443M for SSGN Design
GROTON, Conn. -- The U.S. Navy has awarded Electric Boat, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, a 5-year, $443 million contract for the design of the Trident SSGN, a multimission submarine optimized for covert strike and special operations support.

Harris Awarded $2.3M Digital Map Contract for Fighters
MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Harris Corporation was awarded a $2.3 million contract by Northrop Grumman Canada Corporation, to provide digital map technology for the Canadian CF-18 A/B and Australian F-18 A/B fighter jets. Harris digital map technology enables military flight crews to operate with unprecedented navigational and situational awareness using advanced, real-time terrain visualization data.

Mercury System Used for Airborne Hyperspectral IR Imaging
CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is using Mercury Computer's RACE++ Series multicomputer system for development of a prototype airborne hyperspectral imaging system. A hyperspectral system utilizes multiple frequencies within the electromagnetic spectrum to gather data for improving detail in images.
