L-3 Communications Acquires Vertex Aerospace NEW YORK, December 4, 2003. L-3 Communications has completed the acquisition of Vertex Aerospace LLC from Veritas Capital, a private equity investment firm based in New York, for $650 million in cash. The new business unit, now renamed L-3 Communications AeroTech LLC (L-3 AeroTech), will operate as a subsidiary of L-3 Communications' Integrated Systems (L-3 IS) and is expected to contribute approximately $800 million of sales and $0.12 per diluted share to L-3's results in 2004.
Inmarsat, EADS and Thales Join to Bid for Galileo LONDON, December 5, 2003. Inmarsat, EADS Space and the Thales Group have submitted a joint tender to become the Galileo Concessionaire. The three consortium members are the respective European market leaders in the fields of mobile satellite communications, navigation-based products and services and aerospace.
Raytheon Team Wins MILSATCOM Network Contract AURORA, Colo., December 3, 2003. A Raytheon Company team, that includes Boeing, General Dynamics, and AT&T Government Solutions, has been competitively selected by the U.S. Air Force's MILSATCOM Joint Program Office (MJPO) for a requirements definition contract. Worth up to $9M including options, the contract is an initial step toward transforming military communications. The win competitively positions Raytheon for a subsequent development program estimated at more than $500M.
L-3 Awards $1.7M Contract to Zygo and ORA MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. Dec.1, 2003. Link Simulation and Training, a division of L-3 Communications, has awarded a contract to Zygo and Optical Research Associates (ORA) to design, develop, and deliver a next-generation Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) for new and upgraded flight simulation systems used to train U.S. armed forces pilots.
USMC Places $1.25M Order for Navigation Systems MIDDLETOWN, R.I., November 21, 2003. KVH Industries announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has placed a $1.25 million order for KVH's TACNAV Light navigation systems, enabling the Marine Corps to expand the use of precision navigation systems aboard its AAV-7 amphibious assault vehicles. An additional $0.5 million order for the company's tactical navigation displays was also received from the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command.
OSI Systems Announces Creation of OSI Laserscan HAWTHORNE, Calif. November 20, 2003. -OSI Systems has completed a $1.5 million acquisition of substantially all remaining assets of Schwartz Electro-Optics, Inc. These assets constitute a business in the design, manufacturing and sales of laser-based remote sensing devices. The acquisition was completed through a bankruptcy court supervised auction of SEO's assets. The newly acquired business will now operate as OSI Laserscan.

Green Hills Selected by Honeywell For Avionics SANTA BARBARA, Calif., November 17, 2003. Green Hills Software has been selected by Honeywell to supply the operating system and development tools for Honeywell's future air transport integrated avionics. Honeywell will use Green Hills Software's ARINC-653-1 compliant INTEGRITY-178B RTOS to host its next generation of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) technology for air transport aircraft.
SDR Demonstrator Program for Finnish Defense Forces Burnaby, B.C., Canada, November 14, 2003. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has announced that flexComm software defined radio (SDR) platforms have been shipped to Elektrobit, a European R&D partner for companies that use wireless technologies, for the baseband processing subsystem of the Finnish Software Defined Radio Demonstrator. Elektrobit has a 12 million euro contract to develop this SDR demonstrator for the Finnish Defense Forces.
