Columbia Shuttle Report Examined by Quality Experts MILWAUKEE, September 8, 2003, The Columbia Accident Investigation Board released its report on Aug. 26, 2003, exonerating quality assurance as being responsible for the destruction of the Space Shuttle Columbia, but uncovered major deficiencies in the organization's quality assurance program.

Verint Systems has been selected to deliver a multi-million dollar ULTRA Intelligent Recording solution for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Smiths Detection Wins X-Ray Screening for Japanese Customs PARIS, August. 29, 2003. Smiths Detection has received three orders to supply Smiths Heimann CargoVision (HCV) stationary x-ray inspection systems to Japan, for customs installations in Tokyo, Hakodate and Moji. The systems will mainly be used for truck and container x-ray inspections at these three coastal ports to help customs officers in their search for contraband and weapons in the global fight against terrorism. Delivery will take place in February 2004.
FLIR Receives $1M Order for Handheld IR Cameras PORTLAND, Ore., August 28, 2003. FLIR Systems has been awarded a $1 million contract from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) for over 100 ThermoVision Scout handheld cameras. Deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of 2003. The (ONDCP) Counterdrug Technology Assessment Center's CTAC program is the central counterdrug enforcement research and development organization of the U.S. Government
DRS Receives Orders for Rugged Computers PARSIPPANY, N.J., August 27, 2003. DRS Technologies has received new orders to produce a range of rugged computers, workstations, flat panel displays and servers for a variety of U.S. Army and Marine Corps ground force digital battlefield applications. The contracts, valued at approximately $8.2 million, were awarded to DRS by General Dynamics C4 Systems in Taunton, Mass.
L-3 Wins $5.6M Contract to Provide Telemetry for JDAM NEW YORK, August 26, 2003. The Telemetry-West division of L-3 Communications has been awarded a follow-on contract valued at $5.6 million by Boeing for 212 additional sets of Compact Telemetry Kits (CTMs) in support of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) Lot 7 production. Each CTM includes a PCM encoder, an S-band transmitter and harnessing, configured as an integral telemetry subsystem
DigitalGlobe Plans Third Ground Station LONGMONT, Colo., August. 25, 2003. DigitalGlobet plans to install a ground station in Wilkes-Barre, Pa, to receive data from the QuickBird high-resolution imaging satellite. Scheduled to be operational by the end of the third quarter, 2003, this ground station provides additional operational capability to DigitalGlobe's other ground stations located in Norway and Alaska.
Irvine Sensors Demos Complete Stacked Computer COSTA MESA, Calif., August 22, 2003. Irvine Sensors has successfully developed and demonstrated an entire computer system that could fit inside a wristwatch. Using its patented Neo-Stacking technology, Irvine Sensors has stacked and integrated a complete, commercially standard suite of electronics to produce a miniaturized high performance computer in an assembly that is approximately one inch square by 1/2 inch high.
