International Rectifier and Vishay reach agreement for the sale of IR's Power Control Systems business
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., and MALVERN, Penn., 2 Nov. 2006. International Rectifier Corporation (IR) and Vishay Intertechnology Inc. have reached an agreement for the sale of IR's Power Control Systems (PCS) business to Vishay. The PCS business includes IR's Non-Focus Products business and certain product revenue from its Focus Products business, including certain discrete planar MOSFETs, discrete diodes and rectifiers, discrete thyristors, and automotive modules and assemblies.

Agilent Technologies releases first LXI class C-compliant digital storage oscilloscopes
SANTA CLARA, Calif., 2 Nov. 2006. Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced the first LXI class C-compliant oscilloscope family optimized for use in test systems. The Agilent 6000L Series digital storage oscilloscopes (DSOs) offer four channels of measurements in a compact, rack-mountable 1U-high form factor, giving engineers a space-efficient way to integrate oscilloscopes into test systems.

Lincasia and H7 Security Systems achieve first phase of long-distance self-routing communication technology

Lincasia Incorporated, strategic partner of Global General Technologies' H7 Security Systems Inc. subsidiary, has completed phase I of its long distance self-routing communication technology. The technology was demonstrated in San Francisco, Calif., and at H7 offices in San Jose, Calif.

Cross Match Technologies unveils first optical auto-capture fingerprint scanner to meet HSPD-12 requirements
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., 1 Nov. 2006. Cross Match Technologies Inc., a global provider of interoperable biometric identity applications and solutions, has released the Verifier 310 LC (V310 LC). It is reportedly the only optical auto-capture fingerprint scanner available that meets the new set of specifications published by the General Services Administration, in conjunction with the National Institute of Technology, to meet Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 requirements.

BAE Systems to produce attack pod tester for U.S. Air Force
SAN DIEGO, Calif., 1 Nov. 2006. BAE Systems has been selected to produce electronic attack pod testing equipment to protect U.S. Air Force F-15, F-16, and A-10 aircraft.

BROOMFIELD, Colo., 1 Nov. 2006. Sirenza Microdevices Inc. has completed the acquisition of Micro Linear Corporation. Micro Linear, headquartered in San Jose, Calif., is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless integrated circuit (IC) solutions used in a variety of wireless applications.

Military aircraft funding to peak this year, decline over next decade
FALLS CHURCH, Va., 31 Oct. 2006. U.S. military aircraft spending will peak this year at $47 billion, and decline to $41 billion in 2017, predict analysts of the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association (GEIA) in Arlington, Va.

EDO to develop very-shallow-water mine-neutralizer system for U.S. Navy
NEW YORK CITY, 31 Oct. 2006. EDO Corporation has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy to develop and demonstrate a very-shallow-water (VSW) mine-neutralizer concept. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a ceiling of $9.6 million over a five-year performance period. The development effort will require EDO to design a console and launcher that will allow integration with unmanned surface-vehicle applications on the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship.

NASA installs BAE Systems' radiation-hardened computers and solid-state recorders on STEREO spacecraft
MANASSAS, Va., 31 October 2006. NASA has employed BAE Systems' radiation-hardened computers and solid-state recorders on its Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) spacecraft, which is on a mission to study the effects of the sun's solar flares. Two identical STEREO spacecraft were launched from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on Oct. 25, on the same rocket. The two satellites will provide scientists a three-dimensional view of the sun from different orbits.

Department of Homeland Security contracts Ametek to design and develop portable radiation detection system
PAOLI, Penn., 31 Oct. 2006. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded a contract to Ametek for the design, development and production of a high-resolution portable radiation detection system. The system will be used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, public safety officials, and other first responders to screen vehicles and search public facilities for potentially harmful nuclear materials.
