Northrop Grumman develops solid-state laser for different military missions REDONDO BEACH, Calif., 26 Oct. 2006. Scientists at the Northrop Grumman Space Technology segment in Redondo Beach, Calif., are developing a high-energy, solid-state laser called Vesta that company officials claim is powerful enough to perform many basic military missions.
U.S. Army TACOM issues $12 million order to DRS Technologies for Knight precision targeting systems and mission equipement electronics PARSIPPANY, N.J., 26 October 2006. DRS Technologies Inc. has received a $12 million order to produce Knight precision targeting systems and mission equipment electronic units, as well as to integrate the packages into more than 60 U.S. Army M1117 armored security vehicles.
Smiths Aerospace to supply regulated transformer rectifier units to Boeing for the C-130 modernization program LONG ISLAND, N.Y., 26 October 2006. The Boeing Company has awarded a contract to Smiths Aerospace for the supply of regulated transformer rectifier units (R/TRU) for the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) aircraft. The contract is valued at $3 million, with options, for engineering units, with additional potential sales of $34 million over the life of the program. The units will be manufactured by Smiths facility in New York with deliveries beginning in 2008.

Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in Cleveland are choosing the flexComm SDR-4000 software defined radio (SDR) from Spectrum Signal Processing in Burnaby, British Columbia, to demonstrate the Space Telecommunications Radio System (STRS) architecture software in 2007.

Aptima Inc. receives STTR awards from Department of Defense to advance training, human-machine interfaces, networks WOBURN, Mass., 24 October 2006. Aptima Inc., a leader in human-centered engineering, has been awarded eight Small Business Innovative Research Technology Transfer (STTR) awards from the Department of Defense. The Phase I contracts, totaling more than $550,000, will explore the feasibility of cutting-edge ideas and technologies, which will be applied towards commercial application in later phases.
TECORE and TCOM introduce rapidly depoloyable wireless communication system at MILCOM 2006 WASHINGTON, 24 October 2006. TECORE Wireless Systems, a developer and manufacturer of wireless systems, and TCOM L.P., a provider of weather-hardened tethered aerostat systems, have unveiled the Airborne Rapid Deployment Cellular System during MILCOM 2006. The GSM/CDMA wireless system utilizes TECORE's Rapid Response Mini-Cellular Systems and TCOM's mobile 17M Aerostat to deploy a wide area cellular coverage umbrella for emergency response situations and tactical communications.
RAE Systems upgrades HazRAE sensor solution SAN JOSE, Calif., 24 October 2006. RAE Systems Inc., a provider of rapidly deployable sensor networks for identifying safety and security threats in real time, has introduced HazRAE Version 3.0. HazRAE is a chemical/biological/radiological and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) decision support and cross-referenced database application that provides first responders with real-time answers ranging from traditional hazardous materials incident response to terrorist-related incidents.
