Alien Technology releases Gen2 UHF RFID integrated circuit MORGAN HILL, Calif., 10 October 2006. Alien Technology Corporation has introduced its new Alien Gen2 UHF RFID Integrated Circuit. A drop-in replacement for currently shipping Gen2 chips, the IC delivers a typical 30 percent longer read range and more than 10 times faster write speeds than currently available Gen2 chips.
The Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology unveils miniature vision sensor system SAN FRANCISCO and NEUCHATEL, Switzerland, 10 October 2006. The Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), an electronics R&D center, launched a miniature vision sensor system that enables broad-based monitoring and interpretation of visual data in real time, in any light conditions. The system, called ViSe, allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop application-specific image analysis and response systems aimed at security and industrial markets.

Ultralife Batteries Inc. in Newark, N.Y., won a $10.9 million contract today to provide the company's UBI-2590 lithium ion rechargeable batteries, and CH0003 six-bay battery chargers to power a system to counter improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Symmetricom acquires Timing Solutions Corporation, maker of time and frequency products for milaero market SAN JOSE, Calif., and BOULDER, Colo., 6 October 2006. Symmetricom Inc., a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services, has acquired Timing Solutions Corporation, a privately held company based in Boulder, Colo., that provides high-performance time and frequency products and services for government, aerospace, and military markets. Under the terms of the agreement, Symmetricom paid approximately $8.0 million in cash.
iRobot expands mission-critical capabilities of military robots BURLINGTON, Mass., 6 October 2006. iRobot Corp. has designed an advanced communications capability to provide its military robots with greater tactical flexibility in the field. The Adaptable Communications Payload enables communication between robot operators and the iRobot PackBot on different radio frequencies, facilitating reliable operations at longer ranges in today's battlefield environment.
Ansaldo Fuel Cells to introduce transportable fuel cell system during AUSA in Washington WASHINGTON, 6 October 2006. A new transportable fuel cell system for military installations will be shown for the first time at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) show in Washington between October 9 and 11. The fuel cell system is designed to save between 50 and 80 percent in fuel use.

Illinois Air National Guard contracts Telos to install and sustain wireless LAN ASHBURN, Va., 5 October 2006. The Illinois Air National Guard has taken the first step toward implementing wireless network capabilities by enlisting Telos Corporation to install and sustain a new campus-wide wireless LAN for the 126th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) located at Scott Air Force Base. Acquired through the NETCENTS contract in a $1.5 million purchase, the WLAN will support aircraft generation, recovery and maintenance, and wing mobility operations.
