Millennium Cell and Gecko Energy demonstrate fuel cell-powered wireless camera for homeland security, defense applications
EATONTOWN, N.J., 21 September 2006. Millennium Cell Inc. and Gecko Energy Technologies developed a fuel cell-powered wireless camera prototype system with infrared sensing and audio capability. This integration of Millennium Cell's Hydrogen on Demand and Gecko's PowerSkin fuel-cell technology fits a need in homeland security and defense applications for power sources for wireless sensors and networks, remote surveillance equipment, and portable device recharging applications.

GE Fanuc puts bid on Radstone
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. 20 September 2006 -- GE Fanuc Embedded Systems, a unit of General Electric Company, announced this week that it has agreed to acquire Radstone Technology PLC, a designer of rugged embedded computer products that enable prime contractors and original equipment manufacturers to serve the military and aerospace segment. This offer reportedly has received unanimous approval from the Radstone Technology PLC board of directors.

Raytheon contracts LaBarge to provide backplane assemblies for the F-22 Raptor's mission avionics and common integrated processor
ST. LOUIS, 20 September 2006. Raytheon Company's Space and Airborne Systems in El Segundo, Calif., has issued a contract valued at $5.5 million to LaBarge Inc. for the continued production of backplane assemblies for the F-22 Raptor, a stealth fighter plane developed for the U.S. Air Force by prime contractor Lockheed Martin.

The Marine Corps Intelligence Activity adopts Sanz EarthWhere data-management utility to deliver intelligence imagery to warfighters, decision makers
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., 20 September 2006. The Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA) has selected EarthWhere, from Sanz, to incorporate its large-scale data-management capabilities into its service production facilities at Quantico, Va. MCIA is integrated into the Defense Intelligence Analysis Program (DIAP). Through DIAP, MCIA can be tasked to provide expeditionary warfare intelligence to support any national, theater, or operational command in the U.S. armed forces.

L-3 Avisys installs civil aircraft protection systems to thwart heat-seeking man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS)
NEW YORK CITY, 19 September 2006. L-3 Communications' Avisys (L-3 Avisys) subsidiary has been awarded a major contract that expands its capabilities to provide turnkey civil aircraft protection systems for three popular models of civil and VIP aircraft. L-3 Avisys, a unit of the L-3 Integrated Systems Group, has installed or is in the process of installing its systems on the Airbus A340, and Boeing 737 and 747 aircraft.

Instaknow receives Navy grant to automate insertion of command-and-control technologies into existing combat systems
South Plainfield, N.J., 19 September 2006. The U.S. Navy Office of Naval Research has issued a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to build solutions that enable rapid insertion of innovative and advanced Command and Control (C2) and Combat System technologies into the complex open-architecture framework of existing combat systems for naval tactical and surveillance operations.

HSIEC awards grant to Vision Technology to
EVANSTON, Ill., 19 September 2006. The Homeland Security Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Northwestern University (HSIEC), formed to catalyze the development of homeland defense and security technologies, products, and services, has awarded a Challenge Grant to Vision Technology Inc., of Champaign, Ill. The grant, the thirteenth awarded by HSIEC since the center was formed in October 2005, was given in partnership with the Illini Entrepreneurship Center.

Microvision contracted by General Dynamics to develop helmet-mounted displays for U.S. Army Mounted Warrior program
REDMOND, Wash., 18 September 2006. Microvision, maker of light scanning technologies for display and imaging products, has been awarded a $5.95 million subcontract by General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, to supply full-color, daylight readable, see-through helmet-mounted displays (HMDs) as part of the U.S. Army's Mounted Warrior HMD Improvement program.

EDO acquires IST signals intelligence company, forms Intelligence and Information Warfare business
NEW YORK CITY, 18 September 2006. EDO Corporation has completed the acquisition of Impact Science & Technology Inc (IST), a privately-held company that provides signals intelligence (SIGINT) systems and analysis support to the intelligence community, and advanced countermeasures and electronic-attack systems to the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
