ARDEC and Ionatron sign research and development agreement
TUCSON, Ariz., 4 August 2006. The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Ionatron Inc., a Laser Guided Energy (LGE) company developing directed energy weapons for the design and testing of ultra-short laser applications.

Spectrum Signal Processing enters agreement with Motorola
BURNABY, British Columbia, 4 August 2006. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has announced a $500,000 agreement with Motorola Inc. for the supply of its flexComm SDR-3000 SMRDP. Spectrum's SDR-3000 SMRDP is based upon its SDR-3000 software-defined radio processing and analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog converter boards in a four slot 2U CompactPCI chassis.

Battelle Ventures invests in Rajant Corp., maker of wireless-LAN solutions
PRINCETON, N.J., 4 August 2006. Battelle Ventures L.P. and its affiliate, Innovation Valley Partners, have invested in Rajant Corporation's $3.25-million Series B financing round. Rajant is a developer of nonfixed-wireless-LAN products designed to provide an instant lifeline to the world in areas where fixed networks are destroyed, temporarily out of service, or simply impractical.

Hypres receives $800,000 to develop A-to-D converter for defense communications
ELMSFORD, N.Y., 3 August 2006. Hypres Inc., a developer of superconducting microelectronics (SME) technology, has received $800,000 in SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Phase II Plus contract additions from the Department of Defense in support of developing a compact cryocooler and superconducting direct-conversion all digital receiver. Both are key components in the company's work to deliver to the DOD the industry's first all-digital transceiver for wireless communications.

German Ministry of Science purchases $6 million ROV from Schilling Robotics
KIEL, Germany, 3 August 2006. In 2007, the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR) in Kiel, Germany, has acquired a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system for marine research. The ROV system, built by the U.S. company Schilling Robotics, costs EUR 4.7 million. The unmanned deep-sea robot, named Kiel 6000, will be equipped with two electro-hydraulic manipulators with advanced cameras and floodlights, as well as state-of-the-art navigation technology.

CompuDyne acquires Signami LLC, expands signals intelligence product offerings
ANNAPOLIS, Md., 3 August 2006. CompuDyne Corporation has acquired substantially all the assets and certain liabilities of Signami LLC, maker of systems for signals intelligence gathering. CompuDyne, positioning itself as a major supplier for Homeland Defense, supplies security integration services, blast and attack resistant windows and doors, vehicle security barriers, computer aided dispatch and related software for first responders, and intrusion detection systems.

Mercury Computer Systems presents reconfigurable computing solution
CHELMSFORD, Mass., 2 August 2006. Mercury Computer Systems Inc.'s reconfigurable computing variant of the Mercury PowerStream 7000 multicomputer, the PowerStream 7000 FCN (FPGA Compute Node), can accommodate up to 69 Xilinx seven-million-gate field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) connected by a RapidIO switch fabric, enabling twice the processing performance in the same system footprint.

Green Hills Software unveils TimeMachine for Freescale PowerQUICC processors
ORLANDO, 2 August 2006. At the Freescale Technology Forum, Green Hills Software Inc., maker of device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), announced that its TimeMachine tool suite is available for all Freescale PowerQUICC I, II, and III family processors built on Power Architecture technology.

Cubic delivers Homestation training system to U.S. Army
SAN DIEGO, 2 August 2006. Cubic Corporation has delivered the U.S. Army's first Initial Homestation Instrumentation Training System (I-HITS) to the Eighth U.S. Army at Camp Casey, Korea. I-HITS provides high-fidelity training capabilities, including battle tracking, data collection, and after-action reviews. A self-contained package, I-HITS can be deployed to support force-on-force, force-on-target, and joint and combined arms training.

AMTI debuts new Seeker robot designed to identify and destroy IEDs
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., 1 August 2006. The Technical Solutions Group (TSG) of AMTI introduces its next-generation Seeker Series robot. The R-500 is designed for repeated use in reconnaissance and surveillance to identify and destroy IED and other threats. The Seeker Series robots also are capable of deploying a sensor to collect intelligence on chemical, biological, and similar threats.
