Smiths Aerospace selected by Boeing to supply RIUs for V-22 aircraft
FARNBOROUGH, U.K., 21 July 2006. The Boeing Company has selected Smiths Aerospace to supply Remote Interface Units (RIU) for the V-22 aircraft. The $6 million contract is for engineering units, with additional potential sales of $30 million over the next 20 years. The system will be designed and developed at the Smiths facility in Cheltenham with production beginning in 2008. Engineering units deliveries will take place in December 2007.

Fortress Technologies launches integrated wireless solution for defense, security, and first responder markets
TAMPA, Fla., 21 July 2006. Fortress Technologies has announced the availability of a secure wireless access bridge that combines wireless, switching, and security services in a small, rugged form factor. Functioning as a self-contained network or as a secure wireless access point/bridge, the ES520 is ideally suited for the rapid deployment of incident response and tactical networks or fixed wireless applications, enabling "on-demand" secure voice, video, and data communications.

BAE Systems to develop next-generation wireless tactical networks
BURLINGTON, Mass., 21 July 2006. BAE Systems has received a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop the next generation in wireless tactical network protocols for the U.S. military.

X-Change receives orders for SAW-based systems from Dept. of Defense contractors
DALLAS, Texas, 20 July 2006. X-Change Corporation's wholly owned subsidiary, AirGATE Technologies Inc., has received, from Department of Defense contractors, initial purchase orders for the company's surface acoustic wave (SAW) RFID systems.

U.S. Air Force, BAE Systems complete concept testing of retrievable fiber-optic towed decoy
NASHUA, N.H., 20 July 2006. The U.S. Air Force and BAE Systems have completed the design, development, and testing of a conceptual deployment and retrieval mechanism for BAE Systems' AN/ALE-55 fiber-optic towed decoy for use on the U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft.

Alion Visual System installed on flight simulator at major airline training center
MCLEAN, Va., 20 July 2006. Alion Science and Technology's CATI Simulation Operation has completed a visual system upgrade on a B747-200 Flight Simulator that was certified to Level C standards by the FAA on June 29. The simulator is operated at a major airline training center in Denver, Colo.

Government Insights predicts fast growth of open source software in government sector
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., 19 July 2006. According to a recent analysis conducted by market research firm Government Insights (an IDC company), open source software will gain momentum faster within the government sector than it will in other markets. Government Insights predicts government information technology (IT) will see the most substantial growth in the use of open source software over the next five years, with rapid growth in the five to 10 year time frame.

mPhase Technologies presents ultra-sensitive magnetometer and nanobattery at FAA event

Cross Match Technologies to provide fingerprint capture stations for HSPD-12 directive
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., and WASHINGTON, 19 July 2006. The General Services Administration (GSA) has made Cross Match Technologies Inc. an approved contractor of President Bush's Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12). Cross Match's ID 500, ID 700, and L Scan Guardian units are now listed as the first and currently only fingerprint capture stations on the approved list of products.

IEE unveils hand-held control display unit as COTS product
VAN NUYS, Calif., 18 July 2006. IEE announced its military qualified, field grade Hand Held Control Display Unit (HH-CDU) as a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) item. Originally designed for a Special Forces Manpack Global Positioning System, it has been tested in ground mobile, marine, and airborne situations. The unit meets or exceeds the widest range of rugged military requirements, including MIL-STD-810 for shock, vibration, altitude, rain, sand and dust, and immersion.
