Smiths Aerospace provides aerospace systems to Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Lightning II GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 19 Dec. 2006. Smiths Aerospace, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, has provided aerospace systems for Lockheed Martin's successful first flight of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
Boeing starts tests to integrate Small Diameter Bomb on F-22, F-16 jet fighter-bombers ST. LOUIS, 18 Dec. 2006. Engineers at the McDonnell Douglas subsidiary of the Boeing Co. in St. Louis are starting tests to integrate the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb on the U.S. Air Force F/A-22 fighter bomber, as well as on the Block 30, 40, and 50 variants of the F-16 jet fighter.
RBC Bearings Inc. Sells Nice Bearings facility OXFORD, Conn., 18 Dec. 2006. RBC Bearings Incorporated, an international manufacturer of highly-engineered precision plain, roller, and ball bearings for the industrial, defense, and aerospace industries, has completed the sale of its Nice Bearings facility located in Kulpsville, Penn. The asset was sold to Corvest Realty Group, Inc. The Company will realize approximately $3.5 million in net proceeds from the sale and a gain of approximately $800,000 before taxes.

NextComputing, creators of the FlexTop portable supercomputer, announce a feature addition to its portable NextDimension system, the NextPak massive storage option. The NextPak is designed specifically for single-box mass storage needs. Configuration possibilities include up to five 2.5-inch HDDs. The maximum storage and performance specifications include: 500GB SATA/7200 RPM RAID, 900GB SATA/5400 RPM RAID, or 240GB SAS/10KRPM RAID.
Navy approaches industry to help safeguard attacking Marines from beach-based mines PANAMA CITY, Fla., 17 Dec. 2006. U.S. Navy officials are looking for a prime defense contractor to develop the Counter-Mine System (CMS), which will use a precision-guided standoff weapon to destroy surface and buried mines on the beach.

U.S. Army researchers are proceeding with a project to develop a small package of electronics for soldiers to wear on combat missions to report back important information for commanders to gain a better understanding of the quickly changing battlefield.
Digital Angel Corporation acquires assets of McMurdo Marine Electronics business SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn., 16 Dec. 2006. Digital Angel Corporation's London-based subsidiary, Signature Industries, has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets and customer contracts of McMurdo Ltd., a U.K. manufacturer of emergency location beacons, from Chemring Group PLC. Digital Angel, developer and deployer of RFID and GPS technology, will purchase McMurdo for approximately $6.2 million, with additional deferred payments ranging from $0 to $3 million.
U.S. Army selects Spectrum's SDR-4000 for software-defined radio research COLUMBIA, Md., 15 Dec. 2006. Spectrum Signal Processing (USA) Inc., a subsidiary of Spectrum Signal Processing Inc., has announced that its flexComm SDR-4000 platform has been selected by the Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) for software-defined radio research and development.
Northrop Grumman gets Navy order for two Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicles PATUXENT RIVER NAS, Md., 15 Dec. 2006. U.S. Navy leaders ordered two RQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned helicopters from manufacturer Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems Dec. 14 under terms of a $16.2 million contract modification.
