Cree to acquire Intrinsic Semiconductor
DURHAM, N.C., 28 June 2006. Cree Inc., a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor materials and electronic devices made from silicon carbide (SiC), has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Intrinsic Semiconductor Corporation, a leader in research and development of low defect density SiC substrates.

GE Fanuc Embedded Systems debuts first COTS MIL-STD-1553 PMC module
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., 27 June 2006. GE Fanuc Embedded Systems, through its Condor Engineering center, has released the P-10SF, a new single-function PMC module for 10Mbit MIL-STD-1553B performance. The P-10SF PMC offers one or two channels of dual-redundant, 10Mbit, MIL-STD-1553B Notice 2 protocol using RS-485 transceivers. This interface is an excellent choice for flight controls, actuators, electro-pneumatic controllers, or similar applications of standard 1553 requiring higher data rates.

Department of Defense appropriations bill includes funding for Neah's fuel cell technology
SEATTLE, 27 June 2006. Neah Power Systems Inc., a Nevada corporation, has announced that the Department of Defense has included in the House version of its appropriations bill for fiscal year 2007 $3 million in funding for the Porous Silicon-based Direct Methanol Fuel Cell research and development project. This funding would support Neah Power's continued development of silicon-based fuel cell technology for portable military applications and devices.

Edgewood Chemical Biological Center selects iRobot PackBot
BURLINGTON, Mass., 27 June 2006. iRobot Corp. has announced that Edgewood Chemical Biological Center has selected the iRobot PackBot EOD robot as the platform of choice to create a new advanced radiation and chemical detection robot. Edgewood Chemical Biological Center will integrate a new Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) detection payload with the iRobot PackBot.

Intevac, DRS Technologies to develop digitally fused night-vision goggle
SANTA CLARA, Calif., 26 June 2006. Intevac Inc. has received a subcontract from DRS Technologies Inc. (DRS) to jointly develop a digitally fused head-mounted night vision goggle for the U.S. Army. The objective of this program is to develop a prototype head-mounted night vision system in which imagery from thermal (infrared) and low-light (night vision) sensors can be digitally "fused" and displayed on a small high-resolution display in front of the soldier's eye.

Quatech announces RoHS-compliant M2M connectivity products

U.S. Army contracts DRS Technologies for $14 million in thermal weapon sights
PARSIPPANY, N.J., 23 June 2006. DRS Technologies Inc. has received a $14 million order to produce next-generation lightweight Thermal Weapon Sights (TWS II) for U.S. Army ground force applications. DRS received the new order from the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, acting on behalf of Program Executive Office Soldier.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems chooses Mediaware for UAV video processing
CANBERRA, Australia and WASHINGTON, 23 June 2006. Mediaware, a developer of digital video exploitation systems and solutions for the defense and broadcast sectors, has been awarded a contract by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI).
