Boeing tests active RFID tags on MD-10 SEATTLE, 6 June 2006. Boeing and FedEx jointly initiated an in-service evaluation of active radio frequency identification (RFID) tags on airplane parts for a FedEx MD-10 Freighter. RFID automated identification and data collection technology uses radio frequency waves to transfer data between a reader and items with RFID tags.
Middle Eastern customers order American Science and Engineering x-ray security systems BILLERICA, Mass., 6 June 2006. American Science and Engineering Inc., maker of x-ray detection technology, has received orders from two Middle Eastern entities for x-ray security systems. The orders include a Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) and multiple units of the Gemini parcel x-ray inspection system, valued at more than $1 million.
UltraCell receives funding from U.S. Army CERDEC for XX25 LIVERMORE, Calif., 6 June 2006. UltraCell Corporation, a manufacturer of micro fuel cells for portable power, has received a contract award from the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center's (CERDEC) Army Power Division to accelerate development of the XX25, a 25-watt reformed methanol fuel cell, for use as a soldier power device.
SCI to provide command-and-control communications for U.S. Marine Corps HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 5 June 2006. SCI Technology Inc. in Huntsville, Ala., won a $10 million contract to deliver tactical operations center inter-communications system (TOCNET) modules for U.S. Marine Corps command and control on-the-move network digital over-the-horizon relay.
Navy gives go-ahead to build two more amphibious transport dock ships WASHINGTON, 5 June 2006. U.S. Navy leaders are pressing ahead with construction of two more San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships (LPD 17), which are designed to support embarking, transporting, and landing elements of a U.S. Marine Corps landing force in an assault by helicopters, landing craft, and amphibious vehicles.
NASA signs contract with Kinesix Software for its Sammi graphical-interface solution HOUSTON, 5 June 2006. Kinesix Software has renewed maintenance agreements that will ensure the continued use of its Sammi graphical-interface software as part of the Mission Support Operations Contract (MSOC) for NASA's space shuttle program. The MSOC covers mission operations and ground systems support for the Mission Control Center (MCC) at Johnson Space Center in Houston.
DARPA investigates new materials for future stratospheric surveillance airship ROME, N.Y., 5 June 2006. U.S. defense researchers are zeroing in new materials for a future stratospheric airship-based autonomous unmanned sensor intended to track the most advanced cruise missiles at a distance in excess of 370 miles and enemy infantry on the ground nearly 200 miles away.
Ericsson contributes technology to solution for SBInet PLANO, Texas, 2 June 2006. America's Border Security Group, a strategic partnership led by Ericsson Inc. of Plano, Texas, has unveiled a border protection system to address the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Secure Border Initiative (SBInet). Based on commercial high-speed mobile broadband technology and IP applications, the system integrates existing personnel, infrastructure, and technology into an SBInet solution for efficient, transparent communications for people and sensors.
Penn State Great Valley offers Systems Engineering degree at Philadelphia Navy Yard MALVERN, Pa., 2 June 2006. The Engineering Division at Penn State Great Valley has announced the addition of graduate Systems Engineering courses at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The courses at the Navy Yard lead to completion of a Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering degree.
U.S. Army submits $9.2 million order for Comtech satellite data communications transcievers MELVILLE, N.Y., 1 June 2006. Comtech Telecommunications Corporation's Maryland-based subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation, has received orders totaling $9.2 million for its mobile satellite data communications transceivers. The orders were received on the Company's Movement Tracking System, or MTS, contract with the U.S. Army. Total orders received to date against the $418.2 million MTS contract increased to $258.0 million.
