Radstone unveils rugged 3U VPX BILLERICA, Mass., 1 June 2006. Radstone Embedded Computing has announced a family of rugged VPX boards based on the 3U form factor. The new product line includes an Intel Pentium-based single board computer, a graphics accelerator platform, and a Gigabit Ethernet switch. The company anticipates making further VPX announcements in the coming months, as well as releasing a line of rugged VPX boards based on the 6U form factor.
Lockheed Martin upgrades Falconer Air Force Air Operations Center COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., 1 June 2006. Lockheed Martin has completed the latest upgrades to the Theater Battle Management Core Systems (TBMCS) at the third Falconer Air Force Air Operations Center (AOC). The TBMCS 1.1.3 upgrade is designed to enable warfighters to support the command and control process for air operations remotely via a Web browser.
U.S. Navy contracts General Dynamics to modernize the USS Miami GROTON, Conn., 31 May 2006. The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $29.3 million contract to perform routine maintenance and modernization work on the USS Miami (SSN-755). The USS Miami is a Los Angeles-class attack submarine. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.
Qantas to install Teledyne WQAR on Airbus A380 fleet LOS ANGELES, Calif., 31 May 2006. Qantas, the largest airline in Australia, has submitted an order to Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, for Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink quick access recorder (WQAR) for installation on its A380 aircraft. The Australian carrier, which recently ordered 12 Airbus A380, with options for 12 more, will use Teledyne's WQAR to automate the recording and transmission of flight data.
Space Adventures to acquire Space Launch Corporation VIENNA, Va., 31 May 2006. Space Adventures Ltd. has entered into an agreement to acquire Space Launch Corporation, based in Fountain Valley, Calif. The acquisition will infuse Space Adventures with a technology development capability and access to significant space system intellectual property that will be leveraged to bring to market future space tourism vehicles in the U.S.
Micro Power upgrades portable power solution for increased safety HILLSBORO, Ore., 30 May 2006. Micro Power, provider of portable power solutions for mission-critical equipment, has upgraded its SecuraPack custom lithium battery pack, making it more resistant to dangerous malfunctions. Micro Power has updated SecuraPack with authentication, redundant protection circuits, and Li-ion cells to enhance battery system reliability and reduce the risk of unwanted electrochemical reactions and electrical failures.
Rockwell Collins completes acquisition of Evans & Sutherland simulation business CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 30 May 2006. Rockwell Collins Inc. has completed its acquisition of the simulation assets of Evans & Sutherland, a provider of visual simulation solutions for military and commercial customers. Under the terms of the agreement, Rockwell Collins acquired Evans & Sutherland's military and commercial simulation assets and certain liabilities, including simulation facilities in Salt Lake City, Orlando, and the United Kingdom, in a $71.5 million cash transaction.
General Dynamics announces open architecture, competition ARLINGTON, Va., 30 May 2006. The General Dynamics Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) team has applied an open architecture and open business model approach to provide the U.S. Navy with the best non-proprietary solutions for Independence, the first General Dynamics ship. Independence -- now under construction in Mobile, Ala., and the second General Dynamics ship -- is expected to be awarded later this year.
BAE Systems furthers development of the JC4ISR radio WAYNE, N.J., 29 May 2006. The Joint Tactical Radio System Technology Laboratory (JTeL) has certified the initial operating environment for BAE Systems' multi-band JC4ISR radio as compliant to the Department of Defense's Software Communications Architecture 2.2 specifications. JC4ISR stands for Joint Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance.
Apollo Management to acquire Rexnord MILWAUKEE, 29 May 2006. Apollo Management has signed an agreement to purchase RBS Global Inc., the corporate parent of Rexnord Corporation for $1.825 billion from private equity firm The Carlyle Group and management. Rexnord Corporation is a manufacturer of precision motion technology products. The transaction is expected to close in the third calendar quarter of 2006.
