SpaceHab to provide stowage platform for the International Space Station HOUSTON, 4 May 2006. SpaceHab Inc., a provider of commercial space services, has received a contract to provide mission integration services for a new stowage platform. The stowage platform, to be flown on the STS-118 space shuttle flight, will be permanently mounted to the International Space Station.
Unisys proposes global identity authentication policies, standards, and practices AUSTIN, Tex., 4 May 2006. Unisys Corporation has introduced policy proposals designed to help create global standards and practices for identity authentication and credentialing. Unisys submitted the proposals to delegates at the 15th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2006), who will later vote on the proposals.
GRT, GeoEye, and Telenor partner to deliver satelitte imagery to emergency relief workers in the field PORTSMOUTH, N.H., 4 May 2006. Global Relief Technologies (GRT) is teaming with GeoEye Inc., a commercial provider of satellite imagery, and Telenor Satellite Services to deliver satellite imagery to emergency relief workers operating in remote areas around the world.
Protonex debuts soldier power fuel cell systems for U.S. Air Force SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass., 4 May 2006. Protonex Technology Corporation, a provider of fuel cell power systems for portable and remote applications, has delivered advanced prototypes of its P2 soldier power system to the U.S. Air Force for evaluation. The Air Force Research Laboratory has notified Protonex and its partner, Millennium Cell Inc., of its intent to award an additional $1.02 million program focusing on P2 enhancements and manufacturability and for procurement of additional systems.
SIA supports bill to aid high-tech industries facing engineer shortage SAN JOSE, Calif., 3 May 2006. The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has expressed support for S. 2691, legislation known as the "SKIL Bill" (Securing Knowledge Innovation and Leadership). According to George Scalise, SIA president, America is not graduating a sufficient number of scientists and engineers to fill the need of high-tech industries.
Government of Japan contracts Connexion by Boeing to provide in-flight Internet access SEATTLE, 3 May 2006. Connexion by Boeing, a business of The Boeing Company, has been chosen to provide in-flight Internet access for e-mail, data, and voice services for the Government of Japan. The agreement calls for the installation of the Connexion by Boeing mobile information service on two 747-400 executive transport aircraft operated by the Government of Japan starting in February 2007. Installation of the Connexion by Boeing antenna will be performed by Japan Airlines.
U.S. government awards more than $11 billion in IT contracts in second quarter of 2006 Reston, Va., 3 May 2006. The U.S. federal government awarded more than $11 billion in information technology (IT) related prime contracts during the second quarter of fiscal year 2006 (2Q FY06), according to a report released by INPUT. The total award value for 2Q FY06 was consistent with the IT awards from the same time period last year. Nearly $1 billion in set-aside competitions was awarded during 2Q FY06, a 17 percent increase from the same quarter in 2005.
General Dynamics contracted to modernize U.S. Navy submarines GROTON, Conn., 2 May 2006. The U.S. Navy has awarded Electric Boat, a subsidary of General Dynamics, a $10,991,000 modification to an existing contract for submarine modernization and related work at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. The contract, awarded originally in October of 2001, could reach an esitmated worth of $142 million over five years if all options are exercised and funded.
CMC Electronics selects Green Hills Software's Integrity-178B RTOS for integrated avionics applications SANTA BARBARA, Calif., 2 May 2006. CMC Electronics Inc. has selected the Green Hills Platform for Avionics with the Integrity-178B real-time operating system (RTOS), from Green Hills Software, to support the development of integrated cockpit avionics solutions. Green Hills Software Integrity-178B will aid in the development of a new CMC Electronics Aircraft Management System product line.
Lockheed Martin team delivers software and subsystem for missile warning satellite SUNNYVALE, Calif., 2 May 2006. The Lockheed Martin has announced that its team working on the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) has delivered a critical payload subsystem and associated software for the program's first geosynchronous orbit (GEO) satellite.
