GigaBeam gains Department of Defense order to support U.S. Navy with WiFiber technology DURHAM, N.C., 13 Nov. 2007. GigaBeam Corp., deploying WiFiber "wireless fiber optics" technology to economic centers across the globe, has received an order for one WiFiber link from Solana Technologies (STI), to be implemented by the United States Department of Defense to support the U.S. Navy.
ViaSat, Globecomm to develop networking modem for military satellite communications CARLSBAD, Calif., 13 Nov. 2007. ViaSat Inc. has received an order from Globecomm Systems Inc. (GSI) for an open-standard satellite communication network called the Joint Internet Protocol Modem (JIPM). The new networking modem is designed to integrate key technologies, including advanced commercial satellite networking and information assurance, into an integrated IP network for joint, interoperable communications.
Instant-on display selected for the U.S. Army's new thermal weapon sight program TAUNTON, Mass., 12 Nov. 2007. The new CyberDisplay 640M LVR display from Kopin Corp., a U.S. manufacturer of microdisplays for mobile consumer and military applications, is being used in the U.S. Army's new thermal weapon sight program, the TWS Bridge, which has a potential volume exceeding 150,000 units. This high-tech display is specifically designed to operate at temperatures as low as -40 degrees C with nearly "Instant-On" capability, an achievement for liquid crystal displays.
L-3 to develop avionics for NASA's Ares I first-stage booster NEW YORK, 12 Nov. 2007. L-3 Communications' Cincinnati Electronics (L-3 CE) subsidiary has been selected by Alliant Techsystems to provide the avionics subsystem and components for NASA's Ares I launch vehicle. This approximately $65 million program effort will run through June 2014. ATK is serving as the prime contractor for the first stage of the Ares 1 crew launch vehicle.
Metal Storm stacked projectile weapons delivered to U.S. Navy for testing ARLINGTON, Va., 12 Nov. 2007. Metal Storm Inc. has delivered a four-barrel weapons pod, fire control system, and spares to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). These items comprise the first limited production systems to be delivered to the U.S. Military.
CyOptics acquires Inplane Photonics, expands photonic integrated circuits LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., 11 Nov. 2007. CyOptics Inc., a provider of Indium Phosphide (InP) optical chip and component technologies, has announced the acquisition of Inplane Photonics, a manufacturer of Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLCs) for optical networks in defense and telecommunications applications. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Federal IT decision makers report lower confidence in security HERNDON, Va., 10 Nov. 2007. Federal IT decision makers are more concerned about security than in previous years despite spending more time on mandated security requirements, according to a survey of more than 200 agency officials released by Cisco. While half the respondents contend with incompatible stand-alone products, more than 80 percent believe that embedding and integrating network security safeguards is critical for improving their agencies' security.
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. wins funding to field, support U.S. Army AN/TRC-170 terminals MELVILLE, N.Y., 9 Nov. 2007. Comtech Telecommunications Corp.'s Orlando, Fla.-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems Inc., has received a $1.7 million increase in funding to its previously announced $4.3 million AN/TRC-170 engineering and support contract. The total funding for the engineering and support contract is now $6.5 million.
Infinite Group Inc. to participate in $36 million Navy contract PITTSFORD, N.Y., 9 Nov. 2007. A team led by CACI International Inc. that includes Infinite Group Inc. (IGI) won a $36 million task order by the U.S. Navy to support its Navy Enterprise Maintenance Automated Information System (NEMAIS) Data Center operations. The task order, awarded under the Seaport II Enhanced contract vehicle, provides for one base year and three one-year options. The team will perform the work at the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) site in Norfolk, Va.,
FLIR Systems gains $17.4 million order from U.S. Army PORTLAND, Ore., 8 Nov. 2007. FLIR Systems Inc. won a $17.4 million delivery order from the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, Ala., for its THV-3000 Long Range Imager System. The units delivered under this order will support ongoing U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps programs. This order was made pursuant to a previously awarded indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. Work on the delivery order will begin immediately.
