FLIR systems wins $48 million contract from Naval Surface Warfare Center
PORTLAND, Ore., 5 Oct. 2007. FLIR Systems Inc. has received a $48 million indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract from NSWC - Crane Division for its Recon III long-range, handheld imagers. FLIR also announced the receipt of a $0.3 million initial delivery order under this contract. The units delivered under this contract will be furnished to the United States Special Operations Command to equip SOF teams with a Hand Held Imaging-Long Range (HHI-LR) capability.

Boeing extends use of MapuSoft OS Abstractor for U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems program
MOBILE, Ala., 5 Oct. 2007. MapuSoft Technologies (MT) announced that The Boeing Company, acting as the lead systems integrator (LSI) for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program, has restructured its use of MapuSoft's OS Abstractor solution to be a system-wide development utilization in the current build of its System of Systems Common Operating Environment (SOSCOE) architecture.

U.S. Army in Iraq to use Law Enforcement Assoc.'s under-vehicle inspection systems
LAS VEGAS, 4 Oct. 2007. Law Enforcement Associates Corp. (LEA), a U.S. developer and manufacturer of undercover surveillance equipment, has received an order for eight of its Smith & Wesson-branded UVIS Swifts, which will be used by the U.S. Army in Iraq. The Swift is a portable under-vehicle inspection system that captures high-resolution video images of a car's undercarriage. The units bound for Iraq will be used in explosives detection operations at military checkpoints.

Electrovaya batteries power autonomous underwater vehicles
TORONTO, Ontario, 4 Oct. 2007. Electrovaya has received an initial order from a large AUV manufacturing company for its batteries, totaling approximately $0.5 million. Electrovaya is also participating in the Oceans 2007 Exposition in Vancouver ending today. The conference includes a large exposition on AUVs.

ENGlobal wins defense contract to provide engineering services
HOUSTON, 3 Oct. 2007. Provider of engineering and professional services, ENGlobal Corp.'s subsidiary, ENGlobal Technical Services Inc. (ETS), is one of three firms that have been awarded a multiple award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity cost-plus-fixed-fee, performance-based contract by the U.S. Navy.

Orbital's OBV rocket launched in missile defense interceptor system test
DULLES, Va., 2 Oct. 2007. Orbital Sciences Corporation's Orbital Boost Vehicle (OBV), which is the booster rocket for the Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI), was successfully launched as part of a test of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. Orbital provides the OBV as part of an industry team led by The Boeing Company for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Lockheed Martin awards $50 million contract to Cubic to design air combat training system for F-35 Lightning II
SAN DIEGO, Calif., 1 Oct. 2007. Cubic Defense Applications, the defense segment of Cubic Corp., won a $50.3 million development contract from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. to design and integrate an embedded version of its latest-generation air combat training system for the F-35 Lightning II, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

Kongsberg wins Norwegian military contract for underwater surveillance, protection
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., 1 Oct. 2007. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has signed a contract with the Norwegian Ministry of Defence for underwater surveillance and protection. Kongsberg by KDA will carry out the three-year project in cooperation with Kongsberg Maritime and Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, with assistance from the Royal Norwegian Navy.
