iRobot PackBot provides ruggedized situational awareness, semi-autonomous operation BURLINGTON, Mass., 21 Dec. 2007. iRobot Corp. has introduced the iRobot PackBot with Mapping Kit, which provides a new payload designed to help warfighters manage search, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. PackBot with Mapping Kit is the first field tested and deployed robot to integrate real-time mapping and semi-autonomous remote operational capabilities, delivering soldiers advanced situational awareness while they remain a safe distance from danger.
Nortel Government Solutions wins $10.4 million Air Force services award WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio, 21 Dec. 2007. Nortel Government Solutions, a U.S. company wholly owned by Nortel, will provide services to the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory's Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. The Air Force Research Laboratory's Materials and Manufacturing Directorate develops materials, processes and advanced manufacturing technologies for aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, rockets, ground-based systems and related components.
Digital Fountain to provide streaming technology for LITENING advanced targeting system FREMONT, Calif., 20 Dec. 2007. Digital Fountain Inc.'s ToughStream streaming video solution will be deployed on Northrop Grumman Corporation's LITENING advanced targeting (AT) pod system, in use on U.S. government and allied nation aircraft. The LITENING AT system is a self-contained, multisensor weapon-aiming system that enables aircrews to detect, acquire, auto-track, and identify targes for accurate delivery of conventional and precision-guided weapons.
Lockheed Martin team opens space exploration development lab, concentrates on Orion, Constellation HOUSTON, 20 Dec. 2007. Lockheed Martin has opened its new space Exploration Development Laboratory, dedicated to supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Project Orion and Constellation Program. Orion is America's next-generation human spaceflight vehicle that will transport up to six astronauts to and from the International Space Station and up to four to the moon and destinations beyond, beginning in 2015 after the space shuttle is retired.
OSI Geospatial wins U.S. Army contract to develop, enhance SUSA technology OTTAWA, Canada, 19 Dec. 2007. OSI Geospatial Inc.'s U.S. Systems Operations has signed a $1.1 million contract with the U.S. Army. Under the contract terms, the company will further develop and enhance its Small Unit Situational Awareness (SUSA) command and control technology to support U.S. Army operations in extreme environments. Work will be performed over the next 12 months.
General Dynamics delivers single-system command-and-control centers to U.S. Marine Corps SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., 19 Dec. 2007. General Dynamics C4 Systems has been awarded a $38 million contract modification from the U.S. Marine Corps System Command for the production of 12 common modules and 24 capability set III Combat Operations Centers. The modules and capability sets will be combined to become six operations centers used by higher-level Marine Corps commanders. Deliveries are expected to be complete by July 2009.
BAE Systems to provide mission computer systems for airborne early warning and control aircraft GREENLAWN, N.Y., 18 Dec. 2007. BAE Systems has received a $37 million contract to provide mission computer system suites for four Boeing 737 airborne early warning and control aircraft, supporting the Republic of Korea's EX program. The 737 EX program will provide the Republic of Korea with enhanced airborne surveillance, communications, and battle-management capabilities.
L-3 to build aviation tactical trainers for U.S. Army NEW YORK, 18 Dec. 2007. L-3 Communications has been awarded a follow-on production contract from the U.S. Army to build three additional U.S. Army Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (AVCATT) suites. This award calls for L-3 to build AVCATT suites 21 through 23.
Norsat secures United States Department of Defense contract VANCOUVER, B.C., 18 Dec. 2007. Norsat International Inc., a provider of intelligent satellite solutions, announced that its U.S. subsidiary Norsat International (America) Inc. was awarded a $750,000 indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract by the United States Department of Defense (DoD). The company has fulfilled $500,000 in task orders in association with the IDIQ to provide the U.S. Army with satellite terminals, maintenance and support services.
