Lockheed Martin-built Phoenix Mars Lander lifts off CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., 6 Aug 2007. NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, designed and built by Lockheed Martin, launched this weekend from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard a Delta II rocket provided by United Launch Alliance. Phoenix will travel 422 million miles over its 9 1/2- month journey.
Proxy Aviation's SkyRaider unmanned aerial vehicle debuts at AUVSI GERMANTOWN, Md., 5 Aug. 2007. Proxy Aviation Systems Inc., a company that develops fully autonomous, optionally piloted unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), will display its newest UAV, SkyRaider, at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International's (AUVSI's) Unmanned Systems North America 2007 trade show. SkyRaider is a low- and medium-altitude, multipayload UAV capable of carrying a variety of external stores.
DRS Technologies wins $7.1 million contract from U.S. Air Force to repair radar systems PARSIPPANY, N.J., 4 August 2007. DRS Technologies Inc. won a $7.1 million contract from the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, to provide depot repair services for the receiver/transmitters and antenna subsystems in APQ-170 TF/TA radar systems.
Global militaries adopt Norsat portable satellite systems VANCOUVER, B.C., 3 August 2007. Norsat International Inc., a leading provider of intelligent satellite solutions, has sold its portable satellite systems to seven of the world's militaries. Collectively, these defense customers are currently deploying Norsat's technology in at least 17 countries spanning all five continents.
Army contracts Westar to support upgrade, fielding of Apache Attack helicopter HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 3 August 2007. The U.S. Army's Apache Attack Helicopter Project Manager's Office has awarded Westar Aerospace & Defense Group Inc., a QinetiQ North America company, a five-year contract to continue supporting the upgrade and fielding of the Apache Block III (AB3) Attack Helicopter.
Concurrent to supply real-time Linux solution to U.S. Navy for missile simulator development DULUTH, Ga., 3 August 2007. Concurrent, a provider of time-critical Linux operating systems and integrated software and computer solutions for mission-critical applications, announced that Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, (NSWC Crane) has selected Concurrent's fully-integrated iHawk multiprocessor systems running RedHawk real-time Linux for a hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulation application.

Citizant wins DARMIS modernization contract from Department of Defense CHANTILLY, Va., 2 August 2007. Citizant, one of the capital area's fastest-growing providers of business and technical solutions to civilian and military government organizations, was awarded the Defense Acquisition Regulation Management Information System (DARMIS) Modernization contract by the U.S. Air Force District of Washington Acquisition Division. The nearly $1 million project launched June 1 and is scheduled for completion by May 31, 2008.
Moller International wins Department of Defense development service contract DAVIS, Calif., 2 August 2007. Moller International has been identified as the primary vendor for a Department of Defense development service contract which will utilize the company's propulsion and airframe designs. The effort is being lead by a nationally recognized educational institution and was issued by a branch of the U.S. military. Disclosure of additional information is limited per the security directives of the contract.
