GE Aviation systems power M1A2 Abrams main battle tank LONG ISLAND, N.Y., 16 July 2007. General Dynamics Land Systems selected GE Aviation to supply electronic power systems technology on the U.S. Army's M1A2 Abrams main battle tank. The two-year contract is worth more than $7 million, with GE providing three upgraded power supplies per tank.
Cirrus Logic to acquire Apex Microtechnology AUSTIN, Texas, 16 July 2007. Cirrus Logic Inc., a designer of high-precision analog, mixed-signal, and embedded integrated circuits, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Apex Microtechnology, a leading provider of precision high-power analog amplifier products, for $42 million in cash.
Portable robots intercept IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan WASHINGTON, 15 July 2007. The Navy has the lead for Man-Transportable Robotic Systems (MTRS) in its capacity as the single manager for the Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal (JSEOD) Technology Program, according to the Program Executive Office Littoral and Mine Warfare. The MTRS are small, two-man portable robots that are saving lives from roadside bombs and other improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Electronic component orders bounce back from dip in June ARLINGTON, Va., 14 July 2007. Electronic component orders bounced back in June from a small dip the month before, according to the four-to-five week average index compiled by the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA). The 12-month average, which compares order growth to the previous year, remains flat.
ViaSat wins $19 million order for MIDS JTRS air worthiness terminals and tactical networking production transition terminals CARLSBAD, Calif., 13 July 2007. ViaSat Inc. has won undefinitized contracts with a value not to exceed $19 million for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS). These awards are for non-recurring terminal engineering, terminals to support government air worthiness testing, and the first lot of MIDS JTRS production transition terminals. The award is from the Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), San Diego.
Electro Energy Inc. to develop advanced technology battery for high-altitude airship program DANBURY, Conn., 13 July 2007. Electro Energy Inc., a provider of advanced battery technologies and associated systems, announced a new contract award from Lockheed Martin for technology development of Very High Specific Energy Battery Cells for use in the company's High Altitude Airship (HAA) program.
Cloudtech Sensors Inc. completes Merger with APG LANDENBERG, Pa., 13 July 2007. Cloudtech Sensors Inc., an early-stage developer of handheld sensor chips and devices that can detect and report on in real time and under low-flow conditions hundreds of biological, chemical, environmental, and radioactive agents, completed its merger with Advanced Products Group. At the same time, the company changed the merged corporation's name to Cloudtech Sensors Inc.
BAE Systems begins production of THAAD Interceptor Seeker NASHUA, N.H., 12 July 2007. BAE Systems has received a $62.3 million contract from Lockheed Martin Corp. to begin production of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Interceptor Seeker. The seeker provides infrared imagery of the targeted warhead to the missile to guide the interceptor to its target. The first THAAD systems will be fielded in fiscal 2009 and ready for worldwide deployment in fiscal 2010.
iRobot receives U.S. Military orders totaling $17.5 million BURLINGTON, Mass., 12 July 2007. iRobot Corp. has received two delivery orders totaling $17.5 million for iRobot PackBot robots for the U.S. military. The Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), formerly NAVAIR, on behalf of the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) both placed orders for iRobot's combat-proven military robots.
Amtech Systems gains $4.4 million new solar orders TEMPE, Ariz., 12 July 2007. Amtech Systems Inc., a global supplier of production and automation systems and related supplies for the manufacture of semiconductors, solar cells, and wafers, has received $4.4 million in additional new solar orders for diffusion processing systems from the solar cell industry. This new order is in addition to a $4.1 million order announced on June 12, 2007.
