Real-Time Innovations to upgrade Navy Hawkeye weapons system SANTA CLARA, Calif., 31 May 2007. Real-Time Innovations (RTI) won a small business innovative research (SBIR) Phase II contract by the Naval Air Systems (NAVAIR) Command. RTI was awarded the SBIR to research technologies relevant to an ongoing upgrade to the Navy E-2C Hawkeye weapons system.
The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command awards $118 million test/analysis contract to Digital Fusion HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 31 May 2007. Digital Fusion Solutions has been awarded the integrated test and analysis contract (ITAC) by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC).
Team Oshkosh develops TerraMax UGV for DARPA Urban Challenge, focuses on military applications OSHKOSH, Wis., 31 May 2007. Oshkosh Truck Corporation has two goals in building its unmanned ground vehicle for the U.S. Department of Defense: saving soldiers' lives and the $2 million prize. Team Oshkosh is developing the TerraMax unmanned ground vehicle at its Global Technology Center in Oshkosh for the 2007 Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge.
AGS to provide satellite-based connections, networks, and applications under SATCOM-II program PRINCETON, N.J., 31 May 2007. Americom Government Services Inc. (AGS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SES Americom, has been selected by the General Services Administration (GSA) to offer satellite-based connections, networks, and applications to federal agencies under the SATCOM-II program.
FAA turns to General Dynamics for air traffic control communications SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., 30 May 2007. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered $10 million of CM-300 UHF radios and equipment from General Dynamics C4 Systems in Scottsdale, Ariz., to upgrade communications between air traffic controllers and military aircraft operating in U.S. commercial airspace.
Raytheon selects Saft Li-ion rechargeable batteries to power U.S. Army TOW missile system COCKEYSVILLE, Md., 30 May 2007. Saft, designer and manufacturer of high-technology batteries, won a $23.4 million multiyear contract with Raytheon Network Centric Systems (NCS) for lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. This contract expands on a previous agreement with Saft to supply battlefield power for the tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missile (TOW) improved target acquisition system (ITAS) used by the U.S. military.
Department of Defense contracts Endicott Interconnect Technologies to research, develop electronics packaging technologies ENDICOTT, N.Y., 30 May 2007. The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Endicott Interconnect Technologies Inc. a $49 million follow-on production contract that includes a $5 million contract for research and development of electronics packaging technologies, including printed circuit boards and substrates for the next generation of high-productivity computing.

One of the greatest threats to human space exploration is the sudden, unpredictable occurrence of radiation outbursts from the Sun. Researchers have long sought a method for predicting when the hazardous particles from extreme solar events, such as flares, coronal mass ejections and radio bursts, would reach humans or technology in space.

Royal New Zealand Navy expands fleet of remote environmental measuring units with Hydroid unmanned system POCASSET, Mass., 29 May 2007. Hydroid LLC, a manufacturer of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), has entered the second phase of a contract signed in 2006 with the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). The order for an additional Hydroid REMUS 100 AUV system was awarded after six months of trials with the first two deployed systems by the RNZN, one of the most modern naval forces in Southeast Asia.
