SpaceDev wins DARPA program contract extension to develop small satellite propulsion technology POWAY, Calif., 21 May 2008. The United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is extending a contract with SpaceDev Inc., following a successful Critical Design Review (CDR), as part of the the High Delta-V (HiDVE) Satellite program.
Telephonics sensor added to U.S. Coast Guard maritime patrol aircraft FARMINGDALE, N.Y., 21 May 2008. Telephonics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corp., announced that its APS-143C(V)3 OceanEye multimode radar has been integrated and certified by Lockheed Martin as part of the roll-on electronic Mission Systems Pallet (MSP) for the U.S. Coast Guard's HC-144A Ocean Sentry Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
Latin American Customs Agency uses American Science and Engineering x-ray detection BILLERICA, Mass., 20 May 2008. American Science and Engineering Inc. (AS&E), a leader in x-ray detection technology, won an order for two Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) for a Latin American customs agency. The order includes operator training, service, and warranty.
AAI's Shadow unmanned aircraft systems achieves 300,000 flight hours HUNT VALLEY, Md., 20 May 2008. AAI Corp., an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. company, announced that its Shadow UAS have achieved 300,000 cumulative flight hours in service with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. Ninety-one percent of the flight hours were amassed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center deploys FutureFLEX air-blown fiber for constellation program RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., 19 May 2008. Sumitomo Electric Lightwave announced the installation of the FutureFLEX Air-blown Fiber LAN infrastructure throughout major facilities at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center. The use of the Air-blown Fiber system allows the Center to prepare its network for quick and easy implementation of high-bandwidth emerging technologies and other functions for NASA's Constellation Program.
InterSense Technology deployed at U.S. Army's Fort Benning Soldier Battle Lab BEDFORD, Mass., 19 May 2008. InterSense Inc. announced its IS-900 motion-tracking system has been installed in the U.S. Army's Soldier Battle Lab located at Fort Benning, Ga. The Soldier Battle Lab was designed to conduct live, virtual, and constructive experiments to gain insights, impacts and recommended changes to Doctrine Training Leadership Organization Material Personnel Facilities, based on assessments of emerging technologies by soldiers.
dB Control wins $1.1 million defense contract to supply amplifiers for radar FREMONT, Calif., 18 May 2008. dB Control won a contract from a major defense contractor to provide coupled-cavity Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) amplifiers to be used for radar applications. The initial $1.1 million award for high-power (70kW to 100kW) fully integrated C-Band TWT amplifiers has the potential to reach another $4 to $5 million over the next year.
Behlman Electronics gains order from Turkish Air Force HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., 17 May 2008. Orbit International Corp., an electronics manufacturer, systems integrator, and software solution provider, announced that its Power Group, Behlman Electronics Inc., has received a new order for its custom division valued at approximately $400,000, for two types of custom commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) DC power supplies for use in a Turkish Air Force thermal imaging system.
Lockheed Martin selects VMETRO data recorders for F-35 Lightning II HOUSTON, 16 May 2008. Lockheed Martin has awarded VMETRO Inc. a contract to supply Vortex Data Recording systems to support Lockheed Martin's work on the F-35 Lightning II test laboratory. The Data Recording systems are based on VMETRO's Vortex VME Open Data Recording platform. The Vortex system will be incorporated into Lockheed Martin's instrumentation and test plan for Lightning II. The award value exceeds $660,000.
U.S. Army contracts Electro Energy to develop thermal batteries DANBURY, Conn., 16 May 2008. Electro Energy Inc., a provider of advanced battery technologies and associated systems, won a contract from the U.S. Army to continue development of thermal batteries used in military applications.
