U.S. Army grants millions to Kopin to advance microdisplays TAUNTON, Mass., 29 April 2008. Kopin Corp. won the first phase of an anticipated three-phase, $4.2 million U.S. Army program to accelerate production capability and improve the performance of its CyberDisplay SXGA LVR microdisplay. The microdisplay is targeted for the Army's next generation of night-vision systems. These systems use multispectral imaging sensors and Kopin's full-color displays to provide soldiers with daytime-like images, even in total darkness.

Transtector Systems has joined the EDGE Innovation Network, a collaborative, open-environment initiative whereby industry, academia, and government work together to enhance the delivery cycle of technology and innovation to the warfighter.

This follow-on contract for the production element has been awarded after successful demonstration of the technology.
Army Research Laboratory awards $32 million IT contract to STG RESTON, Va., 28 April 2008. STG won a three-year, $32 million task order from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), bid under the U.S. Army's ITES-2S contract vehicle. STG will provide IT services, systems integration, high-performance computer (HPC) support, and graphics and administrative support.
QPC Lasers ships high-power laser for Department of Defense airborne weapons applications SYLMAR, Calif., 27 April 2008. QPC Lasers Inc., maker of high-brightness, high-power semiconductor lasers for the consumer, industrial, defense, and medical markets, has delivered a high-power laser to a U.S. Government Department of Defense customer to be used as a fiber laser pump engine for next-generation airborne directed energy weapons applications.
Protonex to extend capabilities of unmanned vehicle propulsion systems SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass., 26 April 2008. Protonex Technology Corp., a provider of fuel cell power systems for portable, remote, and mobile applications, won a $1.62 million contract with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for advanced development of high-power fuel cell systems for small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This program expands upon Protonex' portfolio of UAV power system initiatives.
3D packaging technologies evolve in response to miniaturization PALO ALTO, Calif., 25 April 2008. Three-dimensional (3D) packaging is expected to emerge as a dominant performing solution in the electronic/chip packaging industry, says a new study from Frost & Sullivan. The analysis finds that 3D packaging technology will be key in catering to the ever-increasing miniaturization demands from application sectors. The electronic/chip packaging industry has started exploring various forms of system in package-based solutions.
BAE Systems to develop secure military communications network BURLINGTON, Mass., 25 April 2008. BAE Systems will develop an "intrinsically secure" mobile military communications network designed to protect against cyber attacks. The company will develop and test network protocols that support the integrity, availability, reliability, confidentiality, and safety of network communications and data.
Air and Space Expeditionary Force employs WebFocus to secure deployment data NEW YORK, 24 April 2008. The United States Air and Space Expeditionary Force (AEF) Operations has selected Information Builders' WebFocus software to give flying units, and their direct support personnel, the tools and information they need to plan and execute successful missions. AEF Operations also enlisted Information Builders' Professional Services to provide strategic and tactical support for its BI implementations.
