U.S. electronic warfare spending driven by improvised explosive devices
PALO ALTO, Calif., 11 April 2008. Casualties sustained in Afghanistan and Iraq by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have prompted the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to pay greater attention to electronic warfare (EW) programs, says a new report from Frost & Sullivan. The report, "U.S. Electronic Warfare Markets," finds that the market earned revenues of $1.25 billion in 2008 and estimates this figure to reach $1.31 billion in 2013.

QPC lasers ships high-power miniaturized Ultra laser to prime contractor
SYLMAR, Calif., 11 April 2008. QPC Lasers Inc., maker of high-brightness, high-power semiconductor lasers for the defense and other markets, has shipped a compact custom Ultra laser exceeding 300 watts to a U.S. government prime contractor. Leveraging QPC's proprietary BrightLock laser chip technology, the laser is the size of a small laptop and was designed for an undisclosed application.

Kazakhstan customs control agency employs Hi-G-Tek, NTC wireless RFID cargo security system
ROCKVILLE, Md., 10 April 2008. Hi-G-Tek, a developer of RFID sensing and control solutions for tracking high-value cargo and sensitive materials, provided its technology platform to Kazakhstani-based systems integrator, Science Technical Center (NTC), to implement a cargo monitoring system for the Customs Control Agency (CCA) of Kazakhstan.

CPI Aero contracted by Northrop Grumman to support U.S. Navy's ALMDS program
EDGEWOOD, N.Y., 9 April 2008. CPI Aerostructures Inc. won a contract from Northrop Grumman to manufacture pod structural housings for the Airborne Laser Mine-Detection System (ALMDS). Northrop Grumman received approval for low-rate initial production (LRIP) Lot 2 from the U.S. Navy. CPI Aero will produce three housings for approximately $800,000.

KBR acquires Australian-based Catalyst Interactive

The acquisition enables KBR to expand and complement its existing global training and technology solutions capabilities.

BAE Systems delivers headborne energy analysis, diagnostic systems to U.S. Army
PHOENIX, 8 April 2008. BAE Systems has delivered the first 5,500 Headborne Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Systems (HEADS) to the Program Executive Office Soldier for distribution to the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division. Developed in cooperation with the Army, HEADS will help scientists analyze and understand the forces soldiers sustain during impact and blast events that could lead to brain injury.
