MIT develops tiny sensor able to detect chemical warfare agents
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., 10 Feb. 2008. Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass., are developing a tiny sensor able to detect minute quantities of chemical warfare agents, much more quickly than current devices.
Implant Sciences wins development contract from Department of Homeland Security
WAKEFIELD, Mass., 10 Feb. 2008. Implant Sciences Corp., a developer of advanced explosives detection products and technology, won a six-month $100,000 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science & Technology Directorate in Washington for the development of a handheld trace explosives sampler.
AeroVironment wins $45.8 million contract option for Raven small unmanned aircraft systems
MONROVIA, Calif., 9 Feb. 2008. AeroVironment Inc. (AV), maker of unmanned aircraft systems and efficient electric energy systems, announced that thean order from the U.S. Army for additional RQ-11B (Raven) small unmanned aircraft systems and associated services by exercising an option under an existing contract. Each Raven system typically consists of three aircraft, a ground control station, system spares, and related services. The total award value is $45.8 million and is fully funded.
Infineon shipping CMOS RF switches with gallium arsenide performance
NEUBIBERG, Germany, 8 Feb. 2008. Infineon Technologies AG in Neubiberg, Germany, is shipping in volume RF switches manufactured in a CMOS-based process on silicon wafers, achieving equivalent performance of RF switches manufactured in gallium arsenide (GaAs) that previously required expensive sapphire wafers, company officials say.
Xenonics gains nearly $1 million in NightHunter orders
CARLSBAD, Calif., 8 Feb. 2008. Xenonics Holdings Inc., maker of high-intensity illumination and high-definition night-vision technologies, has received a purchase order valued at approximately $915,000 from Special Projects Special Applications (SPSA) LLC, a strategic partner of Tactical & Survival Specialties Inc., Harrisonburg, Va., a provider of logistical support to military, law enforcement and emergency response agencies, for Xenonics' NightHunter One illumination devices.
NSA awards IBM contract to design, develop platform for secure data sharing
BETHESDA, Md., 8 Feb. 2008. The U.S. National Security Agency has awarded IBM a technology and services contract for the High Assurance Platform (HAP) program. NSA and IBM will work together to design and develop the next generation of high-assurance workstations, servers, and pervasive computing technology. The contract, awarded in the fourth quarter, has an estimated contract value of $9.4 million over 15 months.
LaBarge wins contracts from Raytheon Missile Systems for Tactical Tomahawk program
ST. LOUIS, 7 Feb. 2008. LaBarge Inc. won $9.2 million in contracts from Raytheon Missile Systems to continue to provide cables and electronic assemblies for the Tactical Tomahawk cruise missile. The company's management anticipates follow-on orders.
Dynamic Network Factory wins GSA contract extension through 2012 for storage systems, services
HAYWARD, Calif., 7 Feb. 2008. Dynamic Network Factory Inc. (DNF), a maker of high-performance network attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SANs), RAID, and iSCSI systems, won an extension through 2012 on its General Services Administration (GSA) schedule contract, number GS-35F-0153N, enabling civilian, U.S. defense, and other federal agencies to procure DNF's data storage, service, and consulting offerings.
AtHoc network-centric emergency notification system to be used by NASA's Johnson Space Center
BURLINGAME, Calif., 6 Feb. 2008. AtHoc Inc., maker of network-centric emergency notification systems, was awarded a contract in support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Johnson Space Center. The contract was awarded to GMRI, a PC Mall Gov division, through their NASA SEWP (Solution for Enterprise-wide Procurement) contract, and it includes AtHoc IWSAlerts software licenses for primary and failover systems, as well as telephony communication services.
Harris Corp. to provide American Forces Network with broadcast communications system
CINCINNATI, 6 Feb. 2008. Harris Corp., an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a contract from broadcast systems integrator Snader and Associates to provide a comprehensive broadcast communications system for the American Forces Network. The American Forces Network delivers news, information and entertainment to almost one million troops worldwide outside of the United States.
